I think 5'4" and a size 12 is a bit large for her age. I'm 5'8" and a 10-12.
When can you see her ribs? If there's no fat on her whatsoever, she probably has an eating disorder. Get her professional help.
If there is a layer of fat over her ribs but you can just see them now that she's lost weight, I would just keep an eye on her for now.

I suffered from bulimia from age 17 - 24. I threw up everything I ate. My parents took me to doctors only they sent me to a counselor. At the age of 25, my boyfriend (now my husband) a doctor, sent me to a hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. I stayed overnight there for a month with limited visitors. It was the only thing that worked. She needs to go to a center that deals with eating disorders and she'll meet others there like herself. They are non judgemental. Now, I'm married to the doctor and have a healthy baby. Good luck!! But going to the hospital was the best for me. I was near death. 5'4" 89lbs. Now I'm 5'4" 120 pounds.

First of all confront her about any possible eating disorder like anorexia or bulimia. She is at the perfect age for those problems w/ peer pressure, etc; If she gets extremely defensive, then she may have an eating disorder and may need some counselling. DO NOT feed her fattening foods as she may become extremely overweight as and that would be bad for her health.

unless your daughter has dieted herself to this size and even if she has I would ask your GP because you dont want someone at her age thinking she has to be super skinny, Girls are easily influenced by all these models and celbrities trying to outslim each other, and they can develop eating disorders trying to be like other girls or their idols. They dont realise the damage it can do to their body, fertility etc.
If she has not done this on purpose I would also get your gp to check why she has lost weight to rule out anything medical and he could then suggest a way to help her gain weight safely or reffer her to a dietician if needed.
I hope you manage to get her back to a nice healthy size, Curves are so much nicer on a woman, dont you agree?

Question her about what she is eating, pay attention to her eating habits. Sounds as if she could be anorexic or bulimic.
Anorexic girls starve themselves because they believe they are fat and bulimic girls binge on lots of food, then either force themselves to vomit food or take diuretics (or laxatives) to rid themselves of the food they just ate.
Counseling is recommended for these diseases (yes, they are diseases).
Also, she could have contracted a parasitic organism such as round worms (from dogs, cats, cattle, horses, etc.) That could explain the weight loss as well.
You'll need to do some investigating to find out how she is getting so thin. I wish you the best.

Does she have an eating disorder? My daughter started hiding the fact she wasn't eating and I only noticed when she had a photo taken. I took her to the doctors and we averted what could have been a disaster. Make sure you give her high calorie meals but more importantly ensure she is eating something.

5'4 size 12. That is not skinny...i'm 5'4 size 2 and I eat more than anyone I know. I don't think seeing ribs is a big deal, the big deal comes in when she drops a significant amount of weight and fast and she drops from a size 12 to a size 5 or something. Than deal with it. Other than that, talk to her, watch her eating habits.

i'm hoping it's not an eating disorder...
if not then i think that she's at the age where everything (every pound) is just falling off because she's young and physically active. If she eats normally then it shouldn't be anything wrong... just maybe feed her some foods with high calories.

yes she must eat about 1500kbs a day, it sounds she not eating the right food and drinking a nerth.,if there are up set with her mum and dad all the time, your daughter is tacking it out of her body to show you that its up seting her, what you both got to do is to sit down with her and talk with her to find what is wrong, good luck.
