Definitely macs for everything, unless you are something like an accountant, or you want to play games. Apple has an overall better interface, where Microsoft is ok for crunching large numbers, and gaming.

I prefer PC's but macs have less of a chance to freeze up macs are also much more expensive so it really is what you want.

PCs running Solaris x86 or a version of Linux. If playing games, then Windows XP on a PC.
