For an example: I don't see a lot of people giving out oodles of stars on Yahoo, but I do see lots of comments that are critical of the asker--some deserved, but a lot are not--like one that told the asker that she 'WASTED POINTS' asking her questions, implying that she shouldn't ask. (They are her points, she can use them if she wants!)
People need encouragement and compliments. And it doesn't cost anything extra!

On the internet but also in real life. Many people I know usually give about 1 compliment a day, and maybe half the time that is about a famous person, then they have about 100 bad things to say, usually about people they know or see.
