This depends on what you're trying to remember. Is this recalling information or reminding yourself to do things?
Recall is something that we get better at as we increase how much we're remembering, not as we increase how much we're memorizing.
When ever you come up with a piece of information, try to delve deeper into your mind for more information about it. Try to remember little things even when you don't need to. Over time, it will improve the accessibility of pieces of information, and things we need to remember will form better connections, allowing us to find them.
For reminding yourself, that is tougher. You have to get disciplined about setting post-its, alarms, and other reminders about what we should be doing at any point and time.

Try to picture the stuff on the shelves in a shop or as a the houses along a street. Then picture yourself walking round the shop (or moving from door to door and collecting an item from each house), moving from aisle to aisle picking up each object and knowing where you want to go next - same as you do when you're actually shopping - e.g. milk first, then bread, then biscuits, then toothpaste! You'll remember what you were thinking of as the 'guide' will be what shelf you're heading to next and the one you've just been to. A bit weird but it works - how many times have you remembered something that you'd previously forgotten when you actually reach a point in the shop (or along a street).

Write a to-do list!
Each day, write down all the the things you need to remember, and the times they need to be done by and add each item to your list, as soon as you find out, so you don't get chance to forget!
Set an alarm or reminder on your mobile (get one if you haven't already got one, as they are so handy for those of us with bad memories!). Use the calendar to remind you of things that are pending in weeks, months and years ahead! Set the reminder to go off a few hours or days in advance, depending on how much notice you need for that particular event, ie, a wedding you may need a few days or a week's notice because you'll have to get a new outfit and a present, etc!
Keep a calendar with you, one you can write a few words, ie, dentist 10.30am, pick up dry cleaning & meeting at 2.30pm, etc.
Each one you do can be crossed off your list, as you look to see what is next! Doing that means you won't go straight to the meeting and realise you haven't picked up the dry cleaning!
Post-it notes are good as they are sticky, and you can put litle reminders up around your house and workplace, as another reminder of what you need to do!
Another thing that helps,is being organised. If you have your outfit picked and ready for the next day, and a back-up outfit aswel, then it avoids that last minute panic, where we end up forgetting the important stuff because we've got side-tracked!
Finally, get a good routine going that you can stick to, but can also be flexible. This is part of being organised, as doing things at specific times and in a specific order, is organisation!
I hope these tips help you, they've certainly helped me with my terrible memory!

try to use a Mnemonic for the things that you find hard to remember. A Mnemonic is a technique you use to remember stuff, like associating them to other stuff or making Acronyms for serialized things.
