my husband came home from Iraq on the 8th (of November) and on the 25th and 26th I took pregnancy tests, my period isn't expected until the 29th or 30th but both of the pregnancy tests had a light blue line making it into a plus sign its hard to explain unless you have seen one but its a plus sign if your pregnant and a minus if your not, well the minus line was very clear but the vertical line was lighter on both!! you could tell it was there but I don't know what tp think, I really want to be pregnant but I have a doubt in my mind. anyways I just wanted to know how likely it is to get 2 positives and not be pregnant, oh and I'm having cramps and I dont know if that is a sign of pregnansy or not!

Since they were light, you may want to test again in 2 days, IF you want to have that definate positive.

But it sounds like you will have a surprise present for your hubby when he gets home! Congrats, you are pregnant.

BTW - there are no known infections that can make a pregnancy test inaccurate. i don't know where that person got that info, but it's wrong.

ALSO - there can be false positive. I've seen them and done follow up blood tests for the women that get false positives, to find they have little to no HCG. Usually the HPT was done incorrectly, was expired, or read after 10 mins.

Statistically, a pregnancy test shows the wrong answer somewhere between 0 and 10 % of the time, so there is a 90% chance of the answer being correct.

If you take two independent pregnancy tests, the answer should statistically be (1- (0.1)^2)*100% = 99% correct. 3 gives a 99.9% correctness and so forth

However, the nature of a wrong answer in a pregnancy test is not a pure statisitcal phenomenon. Most often, it has to do with biological issues like your body producing the chemicals/hormones/whatever your pregnancy test is looking for, but for some other reason than an actual pregnancy. The test discovers the chemicals/hormones/whatever and tells you exactly that; that the chemicals/hormones/whatever is present and that this usually means that you are, in fact, pregnant.

If you take another test with the same built in flaw and the other tests gives you the same result, you will probably (99% of the time) have no more knowledge.

The statistical issue of independedness is somewhat useless in this case because no matter how many tests you take, the information yielded has a built in flaw.

A good option would be to administer different types of pregnancy tests. Your best option would be to visit your doctor.

If it says positive, you're most likely pregnant. People get false negatives all the time, but not false positives, and especially not 2 in a row! My advice would be to do what I did...I bought a 2 pack of kinda cheap tests and they both had very very faint lines, so I wasn't really sure, so I went to the store and spent the 12 bucks on the digital ones that actually SAY "Pregnant" or "Not Pregnant". Sure enough it said pregnant! It's worth the little extra money to know for sure. good luck!!!

It is very unlikely to get a false positive. Did you use first morning urine? It is most concentrated, so you get a better result. Plus, the earlier you test, the lower the hormone levels will be which could result in a lighter line. I would wait a few days and test again. If the line is darker then I'd say you were definitely pregnant.

These tests detect the presence of hcg, which is (99% of the time) only present if you are pregnant. There are a few cases of false positives (such as in a miscarriage) but they are extremely rare.

I would recommend purchasing a more sensitive test than your basic WalMart brand. Some can detect less hcg than others (and thus, you can take them earlier). Most do not recommend testing until about 10 days AFTER a missed period.

Any line at all is a positive. It is light because at this point the HCG hormone in your urine is not that strong, but the line would not show up if the hormone wasn't there. If you are still not satisfied then get the ept test that has a digital read which says "Pregnant" or "Not Pregnant"

The chance of two tests having a false positive result is very unlikely. I'd make an appointment with your doctor right away!

Even if you see a very faint positive sign, then it's a positive test. Those tests are 99.9 percent accurate, so there is a 0.00001% chance of two of them being wrong, or roughly 1 in a million.
