Great answers from everyone and I have not given a "thumbs down" to anyone, they are probably coming from the football crowd.

GREAT Question.

First, I think the AL is going to be very tough... but I'd have to say that unless the Yankees do something more to improve, I doubt they'll make it next year. Boston is still head and shoulders better than the Yankees, and Detroit has worked hard to win a spot in the playoffs.
Cleveland and Boston were the best teams in baseball last year... and the Angels are going to be right up there with them with the offseason acquisitions of Hunter and Garland. IN: CLE, DET, BOS, LAA

The NL is a little more open, I think. Colorado had a great run at the end of the year, and that in conjunction with a Mets colapse... got 'em in... but I don't see it happening again. I like them... but they're a couple years away from being a real contender (yeah, I know they made it to the WS, but that was only because they were running off an unreal amount of momentum). Milwaukee's a great team and I think they have what it takes to make it in next year. They've been pretty busy this offseason... and if Kendall has a year like he's capable of having... watch out. Cubs I think are out... I don't think they'll be able to compete with the Brewers and I see the WC going to the Mets - with Philly winning the division.
Arizona - also out. I don't think they deserved to be there last year... I like San Diego in the West... but for that to happen, they need to be little more active this offseason. IN: SD, MIL, NYM, PHI

Edit: This is baseball, right?

I would have to start by saying that my Phillies are probably going to need more pitching help before they could make it back, the Mets will take back the division. Secondly I would say that the D-Backs had too many guys have career years to repeat that, the Dodgers take over for them and the Rockies will have a hard time over taking a revitalized Padres team for the Wild Card (along with teams from the central). The Central is always up for grabs so the Cubs are not safe, the Brewers are tough but lost their closer...I think the Cardinals take back their division with a rebuilt team.

The AL has the West always open, the Angels will be tough to beat next year though, they have reloaded. The Yankees and Red Sox will be there again but the Indians have a tough division to compete in, the Twins may be down but the Tigers will rise to the occasion once again!

Basically I think year to year we will continue to see a bigger roll over of teams in the playoffs than most people think.

I believe it is supposed to be baseball play offs, but I am seeing a lot fo football reposnes. I denfily don't think the Chicago Cubs will make the playoffs 2 years in a row. Come on now, when has the last time they have done that, make the baseball playoffs 2 years in a row. Not in my lifetime have they ever made the playoffs 2 years in a row, and they didn't do it in 2003, and 2004. The odvious chocie would be the Chicago Cubs.

In the AL, the team that won;t make the playoffs next is Cleveland because the AL central is going to be a battle between the tigers, twins, and white sox.
In the NL, the phillies and the cubs won't make the playoffs.

The Colorado Rockies will not make the playoffs next year. Yes, they still have helton and holliday, but they have no pitching. Their home park is bad enough for pitchers, let alone for a team having only one good pitcher, steve francis. Also, they needed the best run in history, going 15-1 in their last regular season games, just to force the one game playoff. The combination of the pitching not being enough, them losing torrealba, who did well in the clutch, and an even older todd helton is a mix for disaster next year for colorado.

LOL Frizzer this is funny guess the football fans have ended up in the wrong room.

I have to say the Mets instead of the Phillies, and you know who I think in the AL East, and it's not the Yankees! And I'm curious to see what your Dodgers will do next year. I don't have any supporting information, I'm just obnoxious : )

Thanks for making me smile! We gotta do something between the end of baseball season and the beginning of baseball season!

I think the obvious answer is the Diamondbacks. Even though they have a young, developing group of players, it was really a complete fluke that they made it this season given that their Pythagorean record was 79-83. If ever any team had all the breaks go their way, it was Arizona. They also got a career year from Eric Byrnes, and I'd expect that at least a couple of their youngsters drop off slightly.

I'd expect that next year's NL West winner will be either San Diego or LA.

My guess in the NL would be Philly and the Rox, both for the same reason:
Both are up & coming teams, but they are in divisions where there are other teams who are willing to spend like crazy to make sure they make it next year. They both might have the talent today, but New York, Atlanta, LA and Arizona have more money and/or trade-bait.

In the AL, I like Cleveland, but they look a bit like the Tigers after they won the pennant. Everyone was all optimistic about their young guns and hot bats...then the slumps and injuries that they avoided during their hot year caught up with them the next.

Also, I think they would have closed out the Sox in the ALCS if they had just one, solid veteran leader, someone who could have held the team together...Instead, they cracked and Boston grabbed the Mo'....

It wouldn't surprise me if NY failed to make the AL playoffs as well. Their core is going to be a year older and I'm still not sold on their pitching...But with George's wallet, who knows what the team will look like come April.

I think this is a Baseball question not a football one. So to that I say the Rockies. Most of their good players will go to other teams.

I'd say the Phillies and the Diamondbacks are the two least likely teams to return to the playoffs.

The Phillies needed an historic collapse by the Mets to get in, and it's not likely that will happen again.

The Diamondbacks play in what might be the most competitive division in MLB. They're likely to get lost in the NL West shuffle.
