He most certainly belongs there.
Bucky, I'm sure all of your answer isn't from Bill James book.
James would know that Yaz did NOT outperform Jim Rice in the years their career's overlapped. Rice had a higher avg, more HR"s and more RBI than Yaz every year they played together, save 1976.
The GIDP argument is laughable. The reason Rice grounded into a lot of DP is the fact he hit the ball extremely hard. When you don't have a lot of speed (although he did hit 15 triples in 1977 AND 1978) that happens.
He's 6th all-time in GIDP, the top 5 are:
Cal Ripken
Hank Aaron
Yaz
Dave Winfield
Eddie Murray
They're all in the Hall of Fame, and I don't think anyone argued they shouldn't be in because they grounded into a lot of double plays.

Borderline ++. I dont know why the writers havent voted him in yet, because they are pretty inconsistent with the standards. If Robin Yount got in, for instance, Rice should. He was a monster offensively and an above average defensive player. He just didnt hit all the "milestones" they talk about. I cant think of too many pitchers who wanted to face him though.

There's others in the Hall with similar numbers but not recently. It's going to be tough for him with today's inflated stats.

No question about it. The writers, oh, those writers. Rice deserves to be in. He should NOT become another Ron Santo. Those writers. . .

not before the vet votes in the greatest player not in the hall.
phil frickin rizzuto is in the hall, but the the writers and the vet still keep out one of the greatest 3rd basemen of all time...........................ronnie santo. it's a shame. no one eligible, rice, hawk, goose, mac, smith, morris..........no one deserves the hall more than ronnie
