well....good choice im 14 and my pops got me the new iMac for high school whenever i have a paper to type or for my personal use....but since he is a bit young the mac mini is more suitable for him because he wont use it for much...and he can keep with him through high school and maybe even college unless he decides to upgrade to an iMac.....also if he likes to download alot of things off the internet you will not have to worry about viruses and having to purchase anti-software because apple is virus free (yea!)

I'm actually running on a mac mini right now...its a powerpc and not an Intel but i still love it. The biggest issue is making sure your 11 year old knows how to work a mac. its different than a PC but MUCH better once you learn. the downfall is the hard drive is a little smaller than i would have liked (only 80 gig) and there were not enough usb ports but the new Intel's have i think 4 usb ports and something like 120 i believe. and with the new Intel processor's its that much faster. as for the problem of not coming with a keyboard mouse or monitor that can be fixed with any set laying around the House...or you can actually buy a wireless mouse and keyboard for as little as like $30 together.

It depends on the good and bad kiuidance on itds....The computer will do whatever the child request unless you put some parental guidance. Its a manchine and has no major faults reported but kids have a natural knowledge of it and may surpas your underdstanding so prepare for the future.

The question is whether an 11 year old needs and/or should have their own computer. Personally I would give them limited access to a family computer.

The Mini is a good computer, just remember you need a Monitor, and Keyboard.
I would probably lean to the iMac, The iMac is cheap and you get everything you need.

macs are great for anyone, but like mention above, the mini is only the computing unit itself, you would have to purchase a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and any other peripherals.
