As long as there are people, there will be crimes.

I don't think any of your examples would fall into the category of sh*t happens. I think that when I get a flat tire or even when my car was broken into.
Your examples can't really be shrugged off or easily fixed. And I think in terms of publicity (which you say rape gets a lot of) rape is more like a drive by shooting. Someone deliberately set out to hurt another person. Then agan, I've also seen many stories of fatal car accidents and robbery attempts on the news.

Uh, Mike, you ARE blaming women! I let my friend into my home, how did that in any way make it ok for him to rape me? There is no reason to sexually assualt someone. I don't care if she is walking around mother naked, men are supposed to control their base impulses. Unreasonably unsafe? So my home was unreasonably unsafe? My flannel pajamas were provocative? God what is the rest of your thought process like?
And sh*t happens? Sh*t happens is an accident, not a crime against another person. I wouldn't call getting shot in the face sh*t happening.
So that would be a no, rape and sh*t happens, two very different things.
MT- rape is rape is rape is WRONG! Situation doesn't matter. I've been out in my super short skirts and no one tried to force themselves on me. When a woman says no and the man continues anyway, it's RAPE. No ifs, no ands or buts. I have a reasonable expectation to wear whatever I want without the fear of rape.
And I don't leave my keys in my car.

Well, for one thing, in a lot of those cases, you're comparing accidents to intentionally harming someone.
Sure, "bad things happen," but does this mean we should say ( as a society) "Oh well, sh!t happens."
If you're ever raped, do you think "Hey, sh!t happens!" is going to be an appropriate response? I don't think it's an appropriate response for any tragic occurrence, especially if someone intentionally harmed you.
As for rape getting an "inordinate" amount of attention. I don't agree.

Having a bucket of paint fall on your head goes into that category; rape, which is premeditated, is not.
EDIT: By that logic, 9/11 would be an example of the shat that happens.

What you listed were not on purpose. Rape is a horrible thing not only giving the person physical wounds but also mental ones that will stay forever.

Well- like the other examples, it's a horrible thing that could happen.
But rape's different- in that it's an act specifically perpetrated against a particular woman. It's not an accident but a gendered attack using sex and violence. So in that way- politically, sexually, and psychologically- it wouldn't fall in the same category.

No. Sh*t happens is when your dog dies, you get sick, your tire pops. When it's something bad that could be prevented like a moron gets a gun and kills a bunch of people then that's beyond the sh*t happens category and hits the "that's f-upped, we need to fix that" category. That's where rape falls.

Do you remember learning about the historical accessories to war, the pillaging and the raping? Those are war crimes.
Sexual deviants wage their war on women, one at a time.
It is a much bigger deal than s**t happens. Your examples are worse than that, too. Much more than minor inconveniences.
C. :)!!

Would you say that to an MRA who is advocating awareness of sexual assualt against men or prison rape?
i suspect this is just a cheesy attack on women.
the UN regarded rape as 'physchological torture' - I suggest you read the literature and inform yourself as to what constitutes violence, harm and human rights abuses in society.

i do not think that any of your examples fall under the s*it happens category. All of them are absolutly horrible. In my opinon something like your favorite t.v. show being preempted, missing your exit on the freeway, paying for 2 sodas when you only got one... these fall under the s*it happens category.
