Perjury before the Grand Jury investigating allegations of steroid use.

He is charged with lying to a grand jury in a criminal case in which he was only a witness, not a suspect. The people involved in that case have already been tried, convicted, and served their sentences.

Because he (allegedly) committed a couple of serious crimes. Perjury and Obstruction of Justice are felonies.

If you commit perjury in a legal proceeding and get caught, you WILL go to prison. (Unless your name is Bill Clinton, and you can get 50 Democratic Senators to put party politics ahead of their oath to uphold the law, and cut you loose.)
