well...saying please after the yes when responding to an offer shows that the reciever would like the offer filled, not just that they like the offer. For example "would you like it if I gave you a foot massage?" someone asks. If you respond with a yes, it just means you WOULD like it, but you're not taking the question as an offer. If you respond with "yes, please" you're saying that you would like them to literally give you a foot massage.

Maybe in some old day it was "yes that pleases me" or yes please me lol
Because you would really only use "yes please" if someone was offering you something. The please is an extension of their question to you as if you were asking them for it.

I agree with the previous answers that it's polite. But I rarely say Yes please. I say "Yes, thank you"
