I think this story about the teddy bear being named "mohamed" was invented to create discord between religions. I find it hard to believe that an educated person (a teacher) would come with the idea of insulting muslims that way when she knew what the consequences would be. I simply don't believe the story.
---------------- But if the story is true then something needs to be done to protect the poor woman. Fine her, kick her out of the country but do NOT impose that barbarian punishment.

A lot of the people here are as ignorant, irrational and bloodthirsty than the very lowest of the Janjaweed militia. Seriously, invade Sudan for this? That makes Bin Laden look like a moderate. You could have said "invade Sudan to stop the genocide in Darfur", but no. And shoot 1 000 Muslims (presumably ones who have nothing to do with this) for every lash one woman receives? Your reaction, west.ham., is so ridiculous and disproportionate as to make whipping a woman for naming a teddy bear "Muhammad" seem reasonable by comparison. It reminds me of incidents in Nigeria where Christians were savagely beaten in retaliation for cartoons that appeared in an obscure Danish magazine. west.ham., if you had been born in Sudan, you would have made a fine suicide bomber!
I am sure that most of those answerers are just bitter, uneducated, unemployable trolls with nothing better to do with their unfulfilled, useless (and mercifully short) lives than post offensive comments on the Internet in order to get a reaction but still, what does it say about society that people could even think that?
Just wait for the thumbs down from the racists (and we all no that Islamaphobia has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with skin colour) who have multiple accounts. Maybe someone will even say that I am a sympathiser!

Honestly do not think retaliation would be the answer. Lets hope diplomacy rules here. If Muslims feel so strongly about this it should be the parents of the children they should be punishing for not instructing their offsprings correctly on their religion. We are a Christian country and I and I am sure others can't imagine the majority of a class voting to call a teddy bear Jesus and we do not indoctorate out children in religion the way Muslims do.

If Great Britain still had any kind of an army, they would invade the Sudan and rescue her, as soon as the lashes commenced.
And to Gladys, down below: YES, invade over 1 citizen being grossly maltreated; all they have to do is kick her out, unharmed. All the rest of UK citizens in the Sudan should be told to leave by the Brit govt. Let's see how they do without the help. NO, no gov't has an OBLIGATION to invade another to help people who aren't their own citizens, so the point about Darfur doesn't fit. {And if a Western country DID invade Sudan to stop the genocide, fools like yourself would be whining about "invasions of sovereign nations" and "blood for oil, part 2." (You know you would.)

I think it would be a very very fair response. A british citizen is about to be tortured in another country. Personally I think we should be razing their backward country to the ground.
