Since our health care system is doing fine as it is should we privatize all our education system so private investment groups can benefit?

Health Care, health always comes first. If you have a disease or an illness and cannot afford treatment or medication you will not be well enough to pay attention, learn or take in information because you are too sick.

You must live in an alternate reality, buddy if you think our health care system is working just fine. Or you just haven't had to use it lately. Throwing money at the education system will not fix it. We need some real reform of both the health care system and the education system in this country and vouchers are not the answer for education. PRIVATIZATION is not the answer either, as that is what has made the health care system such a mess.

Your health care is fine??? pardon? You must have insurance because otherwise you would be far from fine. As for education the best idea I have heard is already implanted in a few schools in the states. They have remained on the socialized system but do not hire teachers from the teachers union. The teachers union is the biggest detriment to your education. The schools that have done this show better test scoring and worker happiness. Best part if a teacher isn't working out they can be fired without the years of red tape that restrict other schools.

I would say privatizing the education system wouldn't be half bad an idea. All the great Universities in the country are private. However, the major advances in Science and Medicine come from Public Institutions, as they receive heavy Federal and State funding....not to mention there is the is a benefit for the rich to donate to Public Universities over Private ones. If we privatize the whole lot, than we should also transfer all the perks from the Public system to the Private, in order to bring the gap that will be left in the transition.

Public education is a broken system. Special Interest groups have convoluted the learning process up so badly that least amount of money is being spent educating the majority of the students while the "kids with issues" group is getting the majority of the funding. Lets not forget cost of liability insurance that eats away at every districts bottom line. Privatize schools it is the only answer.

the marginal return to added investment in education seems to be much higher than the marginal return to improved health care, so education.

of course, it is quite possible that the public union dominated K-12 education system is why more investment is needed there.

as one principal observed in my local newspaper today ... "getting rid of a poor teacher is nearly impossible". The best you can do is the Rudy Crew shuffle -- move all the poorest teachers out of the poorest performing schools and into the better performing ones. [Rudy Crew is superintendent of schools in Miami-Dade County, Florida].

the theory behind the Rudy Crew shuffle is that the biggest determinator of the success of the best schools is the parents (not the teachers) and that the best teachers are needed in underperforming schools in order to have a chance of making any reasonable educational progress.

Considering that public schools undereducate Americas children, privatization, or at least allowing parent to decide where to send their children, would vastly improve the educational state of American children.

And if government would give us tax breaks and tax credit for health insurance, and stop regulating our health care to death, then just about everybody could have health insurance without government interference or intrusion.

Having government union bureaucrats who are unanswerable to the consumers of their services has never resulted in better product. It's a simple fact that many don't seem to be able to grasp.

education needs the money more. It's pretty said when already underpaid teacher use their own money to by supplies for their under funded schools. As for health care it needs reform but you can't save everyone. This 100% coverage concept is a pipe dream.

Hey look thumb down all around. I guess that what we get for answering in this section. PS I know many in the education system and it is so underfuned it should be a crime.

Private educations are always better educations so I would say your thesis is valid.

healthcare works fine
education works fine

... as long as you have access to it. You get what you pay for, basically. I was publically educated and turned out 'OK' - if i want to pay ofr a better education for my kids, i can do that. If i want to pay for better healthcare, i can do that.

If i get it for free, i dont expect much
