What, the right to hold a job is special? The right to rent an apartment is special? The right to walk the streets without beeing beaten up is special?
What planet are you from that you haven't yet realized our gay friends and family just want to be treated the same as the rest of us?
Special laws protecting them from discrimination have only been necessary because of people who look upon them as some kind of sub-human, much as slave-owners used to look upon their slaves as property or objects.
The fact you even ask such a question shows the world still has some growing up to do.
Explain how you pay "extra" if a gay person has a partner. Do you really think there is some kind of "gay" tax?
With every edit, you dig yourself deeper, you poor little excuse for a human being.
If you really believe what you say, declare yourself gay and enjoy all those "benefits" and "special rights". Let us know how that turns out.

The rights that they are looking for are not about insurance or other benefits. One of the main issues that same sex partners have is when one partner becomes very ill. Even if they have been together for many years, the partner does not legally have any right to participate in medical decisions or, in many cases, even to visit the partner. Take this example, if two people have been together for 25 years and their families are estranged, as is often the case, who should make the medical decisions when that person becomes terminally ill?
As far as medical benefits. Employers have the right to allow or not allow partners medical benefits whether they are married or not. That happens now and it has nothing to do with gay rights.
You need to read up a little more on the issues involved.

News flash, troll: they're not.
Name one "special right" gays have that straight people don't.
EDIT: "There is absolutely no reason they should have partnership rights." -- That's your opinion, and an opinion that most of America does not share. Also, the right to partnership is not a special right, because everyone, worldwide, of any persuasion, has the right to partner with whomever they choose.
"Why should I pay extra for goods and services so their partner can be insured?" -- Why should you pay for anything? Why pay taxes? Why pay for schools if you don't have a child of school age, or pay for a war you disagree with? Because that's life. Also, I'd like to see the statistics, because I would be very surprised if you pay more for anything as a result of a company providing health care benefits to domestic partners. In either case, it's no more than it would be for, say, a family who decides to have 8 children and all of them need health care provided by the company. And it's damn sure less than the gas price increases over the past four years as a result of a war that most people don't believe we should be fighting.
"Why is it anyone that criticizes gays is slandered? You're the d-mn troll!!!!" -- You're not a troll because you criticize gays, you're a troll because you are a) not asking a real question, but phrasing your opinion in the form of a question to get a rise out of people; and b) because your so-called "question" and accompanying inflammatory remarks are not based in reality and are not supported by any facts.
EDIT #2: "News flash for you hillary. the gay lesbian and transgendered sight is nothing more than a chat line which is in violation of answers policy." OK, first, it's "site," not "sight," and even if it is in violation of an answers policy AND it's a chat line, that still doesn't prove your wack theory about special rights.
"This is a law and ethics portion and my question fits that description.Don't like it, lump it troll!!!!" Just because you phrase it with a question mark at the end doesn't make it a question. Further, your continued insistence that everyone who doesn't agree with the "facts" set forth in your "question" proves that you're not looking for answers, you're picking a fight. That doesn't fit what this site is trying to do, and it's still not a law or ethics question. It's a homophobic rant.
"Regarding hospital property etc. that all can be handled through power of attourney. No law needs to be made." That's not always the case, because in most states, power of attorney ONLY is applicable when the person who is signing over the power is not able to do something for themselves, say because of a terminal illness, they're out of the country or in jail, etc. Plus, even if it was made into a law, that also STILL doesn't make it a "special right," because straight couples already have that power without filing a power of attorney.
"And don't whine about the cost!!They are cheap and no doubt the aclu would give it for free." I assume you're talking about the health care issue. You said that, not me. In fact, your statement was "Why should I pay extra for goods and services so their partner can be insured?" No one's complaining about costs but you.
"Gays are definitely getting SPECIAL RIGHTS others do not get." You still haven't established that, you've only screamed it through CAPS and your biased rhetoric. Just because you keep repeating it and yelling it doesn't make it true. If you have actual facts, I'd really like to see them, but I still think you're full of it.

Please list the special rights they are given, or even asking for. It seems that they are currently being denied some of the rights of other citizens.
Why should they pay extra for goods and services so that your partner is insured? You see, that isn't a special right, that's an equal right. There's a major difference. Some states give them partnership rights to make up for the rights they cannot get since they are not allowed to marry. If you, as a heterosexual, want those benefits, you can get married, they cannot. If they could get married, they wouldn't have the partnership option.

In reality they aren't, but they do get discriminated against because of their sexual orientation.
Granted many people think gay sex is akin to pedophilia - the most heinous of crimes one can perpetrate on another human being. So they openly engage in a lifestyle that to some people is vial. Hence people who feel that way don't want gay people around them - so they feel gay's are inferior and not worthy of the same rights they enjoy.

I don't know what you mean by special rights. If you mean the right to be treated the same as everyone else, that's not special, that's just human decency.
