I also associate them with the military. My thoughts are simple if they are all over the body I don't care for them. Something nice in an out of the way rarely if ever seen area is great.

As someone who is almost 40, I think tattoos are wonderful. Tattoos ARE works of art that do depict a person's life. I have a tattoo that is a remembrance of a friend who simply disappeared many years ago. It's his name with a tribal design on the back of my neck.
As for people who are concerned about what the tattoo will look like when the person is much older, well, it's just another part of the person...a lovely part of the person.
Whether one tattoo, an entire body that's covered, or somewhere in between, it's simply a person's choice. For instance, Kat Von D looks amazing.

Well as I am over forty and have tattoos I love them. I think they are beautiful works of art that tells a story of that person's life. Most people get them to memorialize a part of their life that changed some part of them.
And by the way I have never been a prostitute or a criminal. I have an associates degree and am the mother of three sons.

I am Waaay..... over 40 and really see nothing wrong with using art as an expression on your own body. I have 2 Tattoo's and got the first one at 40 y/o. My adult children have numerous tatto's and have carefully chosen each one for a reason.

43 yrs. old female.
I do love tattoos, especially with color. The only thing is I would not like them on me. It will cause problems job wise. It does invoke stereo typing like your father has done.
Once they go on it is really hard to get them off. No yes they can with laser but not with out a scar of some kind.
Think long and hard before you get one...You wont regret it later.
I lived in Califa for 14 years and was affiliated with gangs and through it all I never once got a Tac. I am still proud of that today! I hope my boys will follow my example. Its worth it in their future!

I'm 54, and I don't have a problem with tattoos. I have always wanted a tattoo of a butterfly on my ankle. My only opposing issue, is that in moderation all things are beautiful. I have seen these ppl. on TV that have, in my opinion, gone overboard. You know, where every inch of their body is tattooed.

well, I'm not over 40 - I'm in my 20's but my husband is in his 40's and I can give you both of our views:
Mine: I don't like them on women. I think they are really trashy looking when women have them, especially big huge ones. Very small ones aren't so bad, as long as you are able to cover them up. Personally, I don't have any tats and dont ever plan on getting them. Eventually (especially on women) gravity takes a hold of your body and that cute little butterfly ends up looking like a giant bat.
My husbands view: he has 5 tattoos. All of them are able to be covered up. 2 are religious, 2 are from the military and 1 is a tat of the Puerto Rican flag. All of them mean something. However, he doesn't like tattoos on women either.
hope this helps.

I am 43 years old. Even though I have no tattoos, I have absolutely no problem with anyone who does. Actually strategically placed tattoos can look good. I just don't have any and it is mostly because I hate needles.

My mom is 57, she has two. One she got at 23, the other at 40. They are small and discreet and she still likes them. The first has faded some over the years but still looks pretty. My stepfather is more like your dad, he would never get one. He doesn't hate my mom's, but she had gotten both before they met. If she all of the sudden decided to get a third tat, he likely would not be supportive.

I am 44 yr. old female and got my bellybotton pierced in july, it's something i wanted to do for a long time.. My daughter turned 15 and also wanted her's pierced so we went together and had it done I'm so glad I did, it makes me feel good that I can share in something that my daughter wanted . I also want to get a tat, but not gaughty just something simple, they can be very beautiful only if you keep it to a small limit, not having them all over your body, that too much!!!
