If I understand what you are asking...
Real is someone who doesn't change anything about themselves regardless of who they are with. I don't mean compromises or giving small things to further a relationship.
I mean definite characteristics that define a person. Chameleons are famous for changing color...but they aren't people and their survival depends on blending in.
I choose a person who portrays who they are regardless of who they are with.

First we have to understand what we are not or what is not real. For example
We are not this material body, IE; Race, color, nationality, Religion, mind, intellect, senses, job, etc. We are all eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. We never die, only this mortal body dies.
This material world is not our real home, it is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery, only one fourth of the souls come here, and the rest are enjoying blissful eternal loving relationships with our Maker named above. Those who are intelligent, take up the process of self realization (Bhakti Yoga) Which begins with the chanting of the Maha mantra (The great mantra for deliverance from all suffering and illusion) which gives one real peace, happiness and reality. Then at the end of life they can return to the eternal Kingdom where there is no more birth, death, old age, or disease and be eternally happy. We the soul within this body is real and our real qualities are that we are loving eternal servants of God. Everyone is serving. No one can not serve. We are either serving our dog or someone or at least our mundane senses. Best to direct our service to our Maker.

Total honesty, with themselves and with others. Sticking to their convictions, but still being open to other possibilities.
Taking responsibility for their own lives, actions and words.
Living what they say.
I haven't met too many REAL people. That is why I prefer the company of animals. They are totally REAL at all times.

Martha Beck is an intelligent young woman, in a Ph.D. program in sociology, at Harvard. She becomes pregnant with Adam, her son. She learns more about what is "real" during balancing her pregnancy and subsequent mothering of the new born Adam, than her classes are teaching her. "Expecting Adam" is easy to read, humorous, and profoundly warm and touching.
Dr. Huang, son of Vietnamese (or Laotian or Cambodian, I forget which) immigrants to America, goes to Harvard Medical School. Before that, he teases his younger sister rather unmercifully. She dies. In Harvard Med, he becomes interested in helping Bolivian street children. His "When Invisible Children Sing" also shows how someone becomes real, and how children become real, their real selves, their inner child of joy.
"Testimony of Light," Helen Greaves, "Men in White Apparel," Ann Ree Colton, and "The Great Divorce," C. S. Lewis, also give good examples and are great reads.
"Soul Mates and Twin Flames," Elizabeth Clare Prophet, deals with real feelings of real people.
Thank you for caring to be "real."
cordially,
j.

Someone who can see another person for who they really are and to be able to respond appropriately, and give them the benefit of the doubt that they are malevolent (unless there is good reason not to give it to them). If you can see yourself for who you really are (not just a spouse, or a social worker, or a woman), then you have become real with yourself.

what you are asking, I think, is how to get someone to open up and share their real self with others? This is more of a psychology issue. If you are asking them to do this, and naturally they are introverted and do not want to share it, then by saying these things... it is not the "real" them. I am real to others in being myself.
A conman can be real to himself as well as others, even while he works his profession. There are many levels to this question. You need to specify which one you are referring to.

They have "let go" of all the ideas that they thought about themselves. This leads to "letting go" of all the ideas they thought about others. Then they experience "What IS".
Peace and Blessings.....and Keep it REAL!

"i think therefore i am" - Descartes.
Meaning, i think therefore i exist. Thus, according to Descartes your real if you think.
I personally think Descartes is an idiot. But hey, he's regard as one of the greatest. philosophers of all time..
