Thats hard to say, genes definetly do have something to do with the way people turn out but even that differs from person to person. My husband and his sister are complete opposites when it comes to their personal lives, that is until my husband and I had kids and got married but I think that is because for a long time my husband didn't live with his parents and sister so that was his environment influencing the man he use to be. Though now that he has settled down (lol kinda) and has a wife and children he is more like his father than his mom ever thought he'd be. It also kinda pertains to me as well, I am nothing like my own family and I'm actually more like my husband's mother because she has been mommy to me since I was 13 years old.

You can be the best parent in the world, but a kids genetic makeup and outside forces always play a roll.

I must be a total anomaly because I do not think any of these things matter. My parents were sadistic monsters who abused me...and I turned out to be pretty decent, I think.
Genes 0%, Rearing skills 0% : I act the complete opposite way my parents did.

95% rearing skills, 5% genes
I think genes rarely have anything to do with it. Children that are adopted usually behave how they have been taught to behave. They don't even know they genetics.

Rearing skills include so many things...being consistent, teaching good values, knowing where they are, what they do, who their friends are, teaching manners and respect and the list just doesn't end. I honestly feel genetics have nothing to do with how my children turn out. It is how I handle things, time spent on and with them and just wanting to have them grow up to be well adjusted and productive adults.
