A survey released by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute in September found that U.S. high school students missed almost half the questions on a civic literacy test. Only 45.9 percent of those surveyed knew that the sentence "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal" is in the Declaration of Independence. Yet these same students can probably name the winner of "American Idol" in a heartbeat.
The study also found that the more students increase their civic knowledge during college, the more likely they are to vote and engage in other civic activities. And vice versa -- civic illiteracy equals civic inaction.
Here are some actual quotes from otherwise smart, well-meaning young Americans:
"I show my true convictions by refusing to vote."
"The two parties are exactly the same."
"Congress is bought and paid for."
"Elections are just a front for corporations."
"My teacher says you shouldn't believe anything you read in the newspapers at all," a 16-year-old from affluent Menlo Park, Calif., told me last week.
Even those who are politically engaged don't have much faith in our system's potential. "I was taught that it's set up for the elites and for old white men and that there's not much you can do about it," said Christopher Le, 28, who works at a suicide hotline in Austin. Le's mother was a "boat person" who fled Vietnam with her 4-month-old son so that he could be raised in freedom. But few Americans in the under-30 set have her kind of faith in the United States. As Le put it, "No one taught us that democracy was this shining, inspiring thing."

Neither.
As a newly registered Dem (GOP since 1979) I plan on voting for the best man for the job of President in the primary.
Nothing against women, just not thrilled with Hillary. She would most likely be "more of the same", like President Bush.

First, I am not a Socialist, so get that ridiculous thought out of you stereotyping head. I am an American first and foremost and I will vote for someone who I think can do that job and shares some of my common interests and goals for America. Right now I am sticking with Joe Biden.

Liberals want free stuff. They see socialist policies as the way to get it.
Liberals in power want more power. They see socialist policies as the way to give stuff to liberals not in power. The problem is that liberals in power don't have any thing to give so they have to take it from the hard-working people that they represent.
And the cycle continues destroying freedom along the way...

Dem voters are demographically less educated and have lower socio-economic status. Those voters thinks its a GOOD thing to have the gov't support them... little do they realize that big gov't is a path to socialism. Even if htey realized that, they probably wouldnt know why socialism is bad. Those who neglect history (or are ignorant of it) are bound to repeat it

They don't even know what socialism is. I think they replaced Sociology and Political Science with Reproductive Rights classes and Cultural (other than the US) Appreciation classes.
I wish I didn't know what socialism was, I'd be happier, because ignorance is bliss.
