Ask someone near you to slap you every time you do it. Or get one of those prank pen zappers, that shock you when you press the button to take the pen tip out. All you need is some negative reinforcement and you'll stop your habit.
Good Luck, and its good that you are trying to better yourself at such an age!

I am a nail biter at 23, and I don't know how to quit, you don't want acrylics they can damage the nail bed. I found that I stopped biting one entire summer. I think that summer I chewed a lot of gum. Chew chewing gum (sugar free) and mints, and once your nails get past a certain point, they should look better so you don't want to bite them, its kind of exciting lol when you can see your nails from the the finger tip side of the finger (where your fingerprint is) Also, try something like Nutranail to help them grow faster, and take Keretin (sp) or cover it in Hard Nails to keep them strong and to stop chipping and cracking.

A) Keep a nail clipper at hand and clip 'em anytime they start to seem long enough to be bitable, I fin that that helps me.

b) VERY IMPORTANT! Scientists say and studies show that you must quit doing something for exactly 21 days(3 weeks) and you will be habit free (of that thing of course). So do whatever you can possibly do to not bite your nails for 21 days and hopefully you will be nail nibbling free.

c) By a nail strengthening nail polish. If your nails are stronger, they are harder to bite and eventually you will give up and not bother anymore, thats what i did and it totally worked!

p.s. I'v had your prob, so I know how ya feel!

oh, and sundae girl check your own grammar. "You MEANT dealt", i think you mean you "mean" dealt. So before you go correcting everyone else, check your own grammar, geez!

Good Luck!

Well, I have always bit my nails as well. Nothing helped me either until recently. I just went on a diet where I take phentermine and I haven't bit my nails in a month. Since you are young, you should not be on a diet but you should try replacing bitting your nails with something else. Try trident gum which has xylitol which is an appetite suppressant and may keep you from bitting your nails. Good luck!

Okay, I am 26 and I have been a nail biter my entire life! I went to CVS and in there nail department there was a bottle called Yuck or something like that, it was the only one they had. It's like a whitish yellowish bottle. It was like $3 bucks. I decided what the heck let me try.. I bought it, pumpkin let me tell you, it is the nastiest crap I have EVER put in my mouth. The minute it goes in the nastiness spreads down around your mouth down your throat! If you can eat through that, just be a nail biter.. Again I am 26 have bit my nails my ENTIRE life.. this crap worked!!! Best $3 bucks I have ever spent!!!

I like how you said that you have chewed your nails ever since you were young, and then said that you are 13 now. News flash, you're still young. You're hardly a teenager, and will be young for another few years. Stop worrying about chewing your nails and start acting like the kid you are.

i had the same problem, what i did was got a manicure every weekend and i liked it so much that it made me not want to ruin it so i stopped
another thing i did was ALWAYS have gum in my mouth, then it distracted me from wanting to chew my nails
and when i got braces i had no choice, i couldnt chew my nails because my finger didnt fit hahaha

well good luck, but try the gum thing, it really helps

I was able to stop by having acrylic nails put on. I haven't chewed them since. I'm not sure if you're too young for those though.

i have bitten my nails ever since i can remember, only time i stopped is when i had acrylics on them they're too hard and too pretty, but they are costly, you have to get them done every 2 to 2 and a half weeks they also make the nails very weak if you ever decide to take them off in the future so i stay with acrylics rest of my life i guess.

ohh my god i had that problem for the longest time. i bit my nails when i was 5 then stopped cuz my mom thretend to put jalpanos on my fingers (kinda scared me lol) and i started bitting them again when i was like 8 and when i was 11 (sixth grade started) i saw this 7th or 8th grader and she had long nails and they looked so pretty (they were real) so i decided to let them grow. i filed them and all that. and when they got really long (i couldnt make a fist with out my nails jabbing my palms. lol) and i bit them really short. and when i showed my mom how short my nails got she was mad cuz they looked good (not mad, mad she just liked them) and i dont bite my nails now (i'm 14) but i have this weird thing that i've been doing for like 5 years. like in school i'll lean my hand on my face (like useing my hand to support my head) and my nails will like be in my mouth. not like all of them, one finger. its not on purpose its just a weird habit.

if you ever feel like having them grow out go to walmart (or the drugstore) and by "green tea nutra nail) it works so good. in 5 days your nails are strong healthy and longer. it works really good. its about $5 (where i live, new york)

but if you wnna stop chewing on your nails you have to do it on your own. habits are hard to break but you can do it if thats what you really want.

good luck!
