They may become more intelligent than their parents? They may read more? I've got it! They'll learn valuable skills like typing and computer competence!

Okay, well, if it's for a school debate...
1. Some online applications, like chatrooms, are gateways for pedophiles. If you aren't willing to leave your child alone at the park, you shouldn't leave them alone in a chatroom, either.
2. Most parents don't have the sense to block bad sites, and their children inherit that poor judgement. This increases the likelihood of obtaining viruses or hackware that has the potential of spreading through the entire network. Maybe dad's unsecured bank records are the intended victim.
3. It's not uncommon for unsuspecting kids to join real poker sites and lose huge sums of money, or for kids to assume that they can't be found because they are on the internet and lose huge sums of money.
4. Porn.

I am for it and I will tell you why. I think all to many time society points the blame else ware rather than at the parent. It’s the parent’s responsibility to ensure their kids do what’s right and this is a classic example. Educate your kids and put the poper security in place to “protect” them and check in from time to time and make sure everything is ok. The Internet gets a bad rap much of the time as this big bad place to be and there are predators everywhere. Well watch any edition of the evening news and you see child abuses everyday. I give my children access to information protect them where appropriate. Certainly there are bad things on the net as well as every other place on this planet but I put the proper tools in place to protect and if need be monitor and have lots of conversation with my kids. That’s my two cents.

if they are immature....

I really think it depends on the kids, their parents, and how well their parents know how to protect kids from internet predaters and so on. I DO think that kids should be allowed to access the internet (perhaps with supervision or something I don't know if they can't be trusted) because the net offers many learning resources and experiences, as well as excellent places to research things.
