A majority of my friends have an opinion that Acer warms up a little more than the others. This means you'd end up with an overheating problem. But my co-worker has a one-year old aspire and its been going very well. I guess all that counts is on how aware are you about your laptop's behaviour. Once it overheats a bit, or being overcharged, you should unplug the ac adaptor.

If you are sure that you'll be getting a good after-sales service from your local acer distributor/retailer, then you can give it a go. Every laptops are weak, in my opinion. It depends on how well you are taking care of them. Good luck!

Acer makes high quality laptops. Depending on your needs, you might want to look at the Acer TravelMate and this article:

I'm using one right now and had this since 6 months ago.

Haven't turned it off since then (I'm constantly downloading anime and TV shows).

I don't see any issues so far, but I recommend you go for an HP if you can. The keyboard is better.
