There have been many songs written and recorded during time of war such as "Soldiers Last letter" by Ernest Tubb and others ,"Hello Vietnam" by Johnny Wright" "I Am Praying For The Day That Peace Will Come" by Hank Williams Sr. "There's A Star Spangled Banner Waving Somewhere" by Elton Britt. Is there a song that fits or is sung about our country's involvement in the current military operations that is your favorite?

I am going to be laughed out of the country category for this but I do have a favorite "oldie/classic" and although I LOVE this man DEARLY, he is not a country singer. It is a song by Roger Whittaker called "War No More". I should add "I Don't Believe In IF anymore" to that also. Then again, he does have country ties to Chet Atkins so maybe I have been saved...lol

New coutnry, I agree, I do have a fondness for Toby's American Soldier though I don't think it speaks to our current involvement, it does speak to how we feel about it and how it touches our heartstrings. I love the video of him with Trevor Scott, a young man with cancer that Toby had on stage a few years ago for Make A Wish. That will tear at your heartstrings for sure...It makes the hairs on my arms stand up everytime.

For me, If Youre Reading This by Tim McGraw, I lost a friend who was a soldier right around the time this song came out and so really rung true for me. Also, American Soldier is just a great song that is about the soldiers themselves, and not focused on the war.

Sorry, guys - not a popular answer here, but... Dixie Chicks "Not Ready to Make Nice." Toby Keith's song is awesome and it actually makes me cry, but that line about the boot, though funny, is kind of embarrassing to me.

I have to go with Lee Greenwood's GOD BLESS THE USA...

[CHORUS]
I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me and
I'll gladly stand up next to you
And defend her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt
I love this land
God bless the USA
