I am 34 weeks/ 3 child. I just got back from the doctor a few hours ago. my cervix is almost completely effaced. she said that my cervix was almost completely gone...this shocked me i was like GONE? last week i wasnt effaced at all and was finger tip dilated this week my cervix is almost gone and still finger tip dilated and posterior. my questions are

is it common to be almost completely effaced before really dilating? i never had this happen with my other 2 it was the opposite.

Whats the likelihood that i will make it another 2 weeks on ur opinion? my doctor said she thinks baby will be comming REALLY soon

my first was born due date barely.. 5 1/2 hours labor

second born was 10 days early and was a little less then an hour and half of labor?

the hospital is fairly close just has lots of traffic and lights on the way to it?
when should i go to the hospital? and should i call the ambulance to take me since medical pays for it? IM REALLY NERVOUS NOW.
PLEASE HELP!!!

to include i am 3000 miles away from any family or friends besides my kids and husband. and if i do anymore bedrest i might as well be "dead" to the world because literally i do NOTHING all day long lol. talked to family they think that i might end up having the baby at home because i am not having "contractions" really but still progressing quite fast.. nothing started until about 5 days ago.. and now all i have to do is dilate another 9 CM.. oh my stress lol

i understand the whole "common sense" but with me my daughter was born 10 days early(2nd child) and was only a max of an hour and a half of labor and i only had 6 mins to spare aftre getting to L&D... that was going to the hospital at 2:46am and she was out by 3:24am. my husband went 85mph down the freeway to get me to the hospital on time. that is why im paranoid

Oh sweetie I am so sorry you are going through this. I had my baby at 33 weeks. Get lots of rest and relaxation. Stay off your feet as much as possible. Maybe you can ask some family and friends if they can come and help out with your other kids at home for now. Call the Dr. immediatley if you start having contractions or any other complications. Good Luck. Wish you and the baby the best.

Effaced simply means that your cervix has thinned. With my 3rd child I was effacing and dilating for 7 weeks and she was born 5 days past her due date. With her, she was my only baby where my water broke on its own. I woke from a sound sleep in the middle of the night about 2:45 AM. I rolled out of bed and thought at first I had wet myself, but soon figured out my water broke when it kept dripping out even after going to the bathroom. I didn't think too much about it at first, just laid there keeping track of contractions when they suddenly went from 6-8 minutes apart to 3 minutes apart. We had to hurry a bit then so I woke my husband, we dropped the older 2 off at Grandma's and we headed for the hospital about 20 minutes away. I was glad she ended up being turned posterior (like my second baby) as she was born at 7:18 AM needing a forceps delivery. I think she would have come in the car if she had been turned the right way. Typically, I think posterior babies take a bit longer to deliver. I know my 2 posterior babies did as did my grandson who was also posterior. It's really hard to say for sure about any of your questions since every labor and delivery are different. I was 100% effaced and dilated 1-2 centimeters with my 2nd child for 3 weeks. Every appointment the doc said see you in the hospital, but I'd show up to the next weekly appointment to my doctor's surprise and my disappointment. He was born 11 days past his due date. It's up to you, but I'd skip the ambulance unless it was a true emergency. I can't see tying up an ambulance unneccessarily.

The extra effaced you get the nearer you're to providing considering the fact that the little one's relocating towards the beginning and that kinda stretches the cervix thinner; the thinner, the extra 'effaced' you're so you are virtually midway (50%) there. Sometimes the cervix opens slightly, two cm, and so on, even two months earlier than toddlers are due. When it is the entire method open/dilated you are having a little one! Hope you are competent.
