Neither one. Buy some wood building blocks, puzzles, or books instead.

I bought it for Aiden for his first birthday (so obviously he was 12 months). It came with one game, and then I bought two more. I hooked it up the night of his birthday.. the console lights up a very pretty blue when the system is turned out. And that was pretty much the ONLY thing that kept my son's attention. He kept turning it on and off, laughing at the light. The padding around the controller comes off way too easily. It's just velcroed on there. Aiden was entertained with that for a bit - pulling it off.. sticking it back on.. pulling it off.. sticking it back on.. etc. The controller can be used on it's own. It makes sounds when you push the buttons. Aiden never cared for this at all. He never once used it in conjunction with the tv. Only played with the remote when it was put on the "play without tv" (or whatever it's called) option. And then after about a week, he didn't even care about that. I tried for months, randomly turning it on and pushing buttons on the remote to show him how it interacted with the TV.. and he NEVER cared for it. =/ So I finally packed it back up about a month ago. So he had about 6 months of it being out. And not once did he ever care about it. The other thing I didn't like about it.. of course the remote is going to run on batteries.. but the console does too. You have to buy the AC adaptor seperately. And of course the graphics are horrible. But also on some of the games, it was difficult to understand what was being said because the sound quality was bad too. I had paid $50 for it.. and for us, it was a waste. =/ I wish I had spent it on something else. *monkey*

I am not going to bother buying these so called learning products for my son. He's only 6 months, but I know that it's better for me to socially interact with him than to let him play with these learning systems. Simple games like Peek a Boo, reading to a child, playing a simple game of hide and seek can do wonders for a child's development mentally and physically.
My friend's daughter has a learning system and I just don't think they are that great. They're also overpriced.
But that's my opinion. You can buy one of them for your child and see if she likes it. Keep the receipt in case you need to return it.

Toys that are open-ended, allowing for multiple ways to play, instead of one right action to make it work, are much more developmentally appropriate. Think blocks, balls, baby dolls, and kitchen sets. Cheaper, too.

You don't have to have these as just your interaction with baby will do more.

But I do prefer LeapFrog over Vsmile.

I got one for my sons 1st birthday, which is on Friday. I think he'll like it.
