Dream of Red Mansions also known as Dream of Red Chambers 1900 plus pages - its hard going :-)

It was composed sometime in the middle of the 18th century during the Qing Dynasty. The novel's authorship is attributed to Cáo Xuěqín (Cao Zhan).

The novel is usually grouped with three other pre-modern Chinese works of fiction, collectively known as the Four Great Classical Novels. Of these, Dream of the Red Chamber is often acknowledged to be the zenith of Chinese classical fiction by scholars, although the novel as it survives is incomplete and is completed by another's hand.

Second is probably War and Peace

I wont buy a book unless it is over about 600 pages otherwise I would read it in a day or two and then have to buy another. I make an exception for some of my favourite authors such as Sue Grafton, Anita Burgeh, Mauve Binche

The Covenent, The Source, etc ALL great books, and Wilbur Smith is also great for nice long fat books and great reading

There were 887 in Red Rabbit by Tom Clancy. I decided if he was going to make each book longer, I was going to find a new author! The only non-fiction I read cover to cover would be biographies. I read to escape.

Edit:
Oh! I did read "Pillars of the Earth!" Great book! He has a sequel out now: "World Without End." I'm waiting for my turn to read it.
Edit 2: The Wheel of time series will never be completed. The author died this year.
I've read "The Covenant" by Michener, also. "Atlas Shrugged" is on my to read list.
Have a star! fun question!

The longest I've read is about 1,200 pages - but the Wheel of Time series takes the cake. It is currently up to about 8 books but each one is between 800 and 1,200 pages, so it's pushing 8,000 pages in total. Took me years to read it, and it actually isn't even completely written yet!

Hummm... how many pages are in People magazine... 140? LOL I used to read more often. I think I read a 300+ page book before. Can't remember the name, though.

Can't remember the number of pages but the longest books I read were:

James Michener's Caribbean

Crime and Punishment

Herbert's' Dune '- not only was it long, but it took me forever to read it as the 'dictionary' in it had to referenced frequently until I began to recognize and understand the terms. Funny - just found out it was only 500+ pages!...shows how your memory gets fuzzy!

Hi Wally. My answer is 10. Just kidding, 1100. I don't read fiction. I never have liked it. It has to be the real thing for me, even though many, many good fiction writers write about true life happenings I know.

I don't remember reading any really long books. I'm sure I did, for school at least. Everything I read now is really short like pamphlets and brochures. I want to make sure I'm around for the finish. Oh, the joy of being old! LOL

I have read books so big and so long I could hardly hold them up and had to sit at a desk. But do not remember how many pages in them.
