It's probably a fan that's causing the noise. By the way, the CPU (Central Processing Unit) is a chip. The whole thing is called a computer or a tower.

LOL! CPU is a chip and has no moving parts. If you are referring to your CPU meaning the computer itself there are several moving parts in there. There is a fan on the power supply and on the processor. There is sometimes one on the case also, Your hard drive has a platter inside it that resembles an old record player with a needle that turns.

Your note of "grumbly" noises makes me think it may be the addess of the hard drive. Next time this happens look at the computer's lights and see if the HD Light corresponds with the 'grumbly' noises. If so, you may want to run some diagnostic tests to make sure that the drive is not having problems. Also, you might look into tightening the screws which hold the drive in place.

it can be the fan but the chances are that your CDROM is making the sound... try opening the CDROM when u hear the sound.. if the sound stops, its time to get a new CDROM!!
Enjoy!!

Don't give me ""thumbs down""... m serious... it happened in my case n some of my friends too....
