Captain Joe Kittinger jump`t from a ballon over 20 miles up in the thin atosphere in 1960.
I would like to know, what happened to the balloon.?
Is it still there.?

It was open at the bottom and rose to a higher altitude with the loss of weight then, I believe floated back down as the helium leaked and the capsule ended up on earth with a lot of thin plastic shredded around it. Some of the others the capsule was released and parachuted, but not, as I recall, his. When capsule is released the balloon is shredded in the jet stream eventually.

It would have gone higher after the weight it was carrying was reduced, but ultimately the helium would leak out and the balloon would come down. They may have had a radio system to command it to come down. Anyway, it came down in the end.

it probably lost its air over a few days and plummeted to an ocean. i wanna know what happened to the good captain! did he make it back alive.
