Try joining a volunteer fire department. I was a volunteer firefighter in high school, and you can get a lot of your training there. If you don't live near a volunteer fire department, attend a college or university that has fire sciences as a major. I know that New Haven in Connecticut has Fire Sciences as a major, but that's a bit far off, so look for something closer to you. Then, maybe when you're in school you can join a volunteer fire department. The other great thing about that is if you're a volunteer fire fighter first, you can figure out if its really what you want to do with your life. Plus, you'll have a college education, so if you ever get injured while in the like of duty and cannot return to the fire services, or if you decide you want to do something else, you'll have something to fall back on.

Take science classes, especially chemistry. There are courses in Fire Science taught at most 2-year colleges. Talk to the chief at the local fire station, and get HIS recommendations, and find out how they screen for selection. Ask what training is like once selected. Obviously, physical conditioning is a major part of the job, so start now. Both endurance and raw strength are important.

You actually need science and math in order to take the fire fighter test and enter a fire academy. Take math through Algebra II and two English (they test on ability to comprehend technical information and also write clear reports). Science courses would include chemistry and biology. You also need to be physically fit so some phys ed classes that focus on body strength would be good.
