I've read numerous slurs against blacks, gays, whites, politicians, other Y!A users. I've seen "I hate you" said to people they don't even know personally. I've gotten the "people like you..." replies from both sides in the past 24 hours.

Do you think the policies of who can hate the most is the prevailing trend in America today? Why do you think this is? Or is it just keyboard confidence?

There is a phrase my father used to describe those who never found a thought they wouldn't express. "Diarrhea Of The Mouth." It is an unfortunate trend that is given more momentum by "shock radio," political talking heads, etc. I see a lot of this on the highways, particularly from those who, while holding their cel phones with their shoulders, insist on attempting to change lanes without using their turn signal and I don't let them. Fortunately for me, I'm not terribly good at reading lips. I bring up this latter category, because I think it's similar to your descriptor, "keyboard confidence." Those in vehicles tend to present "car confidence" knowing that they can spew any vile thing they want. Since there is a level of anonimity in these forums, people can basically "hit and run" any inflammatory comment that comes to mind. Sadly, these people don't necessarily "hate," but the end result of their language and actions can net the same result.
On a positive note, I think there is another trend of people standing up and voicing opposition to such language and action and refusing to participate in the vitriole. Hopefully, we can begin to see an end to the unhealthy and acute polarity of the past 7+ years that has inhibited diverse discourse.

The political campaigns have started much earlier than usual and the hating began earlier also. Some people can't be satisfied with ranting just a time or two, they have to continue doing so until they've worked themselves into a frenzy that is hardly comprehensible to anyone else. These are the comments that are repeated on a daily basis by those with limited ability to express themselves.

It is an age where"" rage"" is accepted more.

I actually had a good laugh today --the fakes (pods) are out galore I saw one question pointing it out and when I went to link--so many fakes on my page----hilarious.

I think values have gone way down in America as more people are making excuses for them. Like everyone has faults---does that mean we should over-look all wrong? I think that is why it . And yes the keyboard gives them more confidence cowards aren't they???

I'm really hoping it's just the anonymity giving them the brass set.

The country is in far worse sorts than imagined if even a quarter of this garbage is true.

Once people lack the evidence to will with a issue all they can do is attack before someone presents evidence of guilt that might weaken the father figure that knows best image which is also one of the cores of conservatism.

I don't know that today is much different from most days. All the things you've referenced as negative indications... I see around YA politics most days.

I do share your disappointment, though. It can be discouraging.

I think it's not a contest of who can hate the most, but who can whine the most about being hated.

Perhaps there should be a "hate" category on Yahoo Answers

Ignorant people hate. Ignore them-they are brain dead. Let's hope they don't reproduce and contribute to the gene pool.

We have a bunch of keyboard warriors many of whom get their cheap thrills by anonymous hate posts. In real life they are likely casper milquetoast types.
