It's a myth, the only thing it will do (I know this for fact) is if your hormones don't work well with the dye it can not mix well and turn your hair a bad bad color.. I'm a dark blonde but always dye it lighter.. My hair turned ORANGE... I mean bright bright ORANGE.. I'd do a test strand before you do anything... other than that you should be fine. I have heard though you should get your hair done in salons VS doing it home because salons coloring use vegie base something. I found this online....Good luck!!

Dr says that....
It's more important that you feel good about yourself during your pregnancy. REALLY! If you feel crappy, baby can feel the stress. If you dye your hair and it makes you feel confident, then baby feels good too! The only precaution is to color your hair in a well ventilated area. 15-20minutes of chemicals on your scalp is not long enough for it to get into your blood system, which is the only way you could possible transfer the chemicals to baby, if they were even harmful. That, or if you were drinking the color straight out of the bottle! lol. Good luck, and dye your hair, have some confidence!
And, honestly, those of you that are telling her 'don't do it'.... do some research or ask a DR first... if she asked for an opinion that would be fine. But she wants a medical answer! It's SAFE and the chemicals do NOT soak into your scalp far enough to go into the blood system, if they did, they'd go straight to your brain, and it would mess with you even if you weren't pregnant! I asked my Dr, millions of times, while I was pregnant because I was nervous. ITS FINE!

in the first trimester, the smells can cause terrible sickness, but after that it is actually safe, as long as you stay in a ventilated area. But be careful not to do anything drastic, because hormones during pregnancy can do crazy things, like turn your hair funky colors- same thing with getting a perm, it has been known to only take in certain spots, and you end up with a half head perm!! but regular touch ups and a little highlighting is fine... I am 15 weeks with my second baby and I just did it last week! Gotta cover the gray!

hair dye does contain chemicals that can cause birth defects, BUT there is no proof that dye has enough to go through your scalp to cause birth defects. If you have it professionally done, they can ensure that very little dye touches your scalp.
The fumes are concerning though, but you just have to make sure you are in a well ventilated area. Usually a hair salon is big enough not to worry about fumes.
Most doctors say if you are concerned that you should wait to dye after your first trimester, as this is the most delicate time for the fetus, as far as chemical resistance goes.

Its like inhaling second hand smoke. you inhale it but your baby suffers.. the chemicals are not good because most people dye their hair in a small concealed bathroom with no ventilation or in a hair saloon where the smell is overbearing. Its ok to dye your hair during the first trimester. But The reason most women dont do it is the same as why most women dont dye their hair while they are on their period. Your harmones can react with the chemicals. Like you hair can fall out easier, the color wont come out the same and you hair will burn or dry out easier.

There are chemical compounds linked with demise your hair. yet in basic terms approximately another product you employ has chemical compounds that get absorbed into the physique. which incorporate: shampoo, cleansing soap, make-up, moisturiser, non organic and organic foodstuff, fragrance, deodorant etc. the important reason that hair dressers advise that pregnant women human beings do no longer dye their hair is as a results of the fact their hair is weakened on an identical time as pregnant and might wreck. in case your female pal does go with to dye her hair make certain you bypass to a professional and don;'t do a house activity. Ask them for his or her professional suggestion.

This is what my mom (also an OB/GYN) told me. There have not been any studies done on hair dye and pregnancy. So,the doctors tell you not to, because they want to be safe and not be liable if something bad happens to your baby. The dye companies will never conduct any tests, because they don't want to know. So its really up to you. I say its better to be safe than sorry, but if you do dye use the foils, so that the dye doesn't touch your scalp to soak into your skin.

I am 15 weeks and my doctor said its fine. Chemicals on your hair do not affect the fetus in any way.
the only problem you might have is that your hormones can make your hair react differently to the dye. You should only have it done by a professional.

It doesn't. No worries. Some research suggests you might be better to wait until after the first trimester is over, but in general, no dye is absorbed through the scalp...and if you do it in a well ventilated area, you don't have to worry about the fumes either...it's OK.

There is some belief that the chemicals in the dye can affect the fetus. However recent studies have shown that so little chemical is actually absorbed that it has no effect.
