I'm a senior this year and my two main collegeS are Cal State & Hofstra. I wanna major in communications, how can I crossover after that into broadcasting and public relations for the NBA.

The problem is that your career goal is too narrow. The NBA itself has a very small office, and each team only hires one or two people to do each of these jobs. Given that, you are talking about a couple of dozen jobs total, which means that they may hire one person every few years in some capacity. Add to that the fact that this is a very desirable job - I know that the PR person for the L.A. Lakers has been in his job for at least 18 or 19 years - and you can see how frustrating this could be for you.

What I would suggest would be getting the strongest training possible in the field in which you are interested, either broadcasting or P.R. Know that you would ideally like to be in the sports field, but that your chances become much greater if you have been very successful at it in some other area. Alternatively, if your real interest is in getting into sports administration, set for yourself a goal of going for a Masters of Sports Administration at Ohio University. It is very much an old boys' club; I went to a presentation once given by front office people in all of the major sports leagues, and about 75% of them had degrees from there. You might try, as soon as you are eligible, to get sports management internships. Don't require that it be the NBA - the people I know who ended up getting into the NBA did so because they had worked for other things like arena football and golf first. Get your experience and be patient! These jobs aren't like sales jobs or bank jobs - they just don't come around every day, or even every year.

By the way, there is a very good website which gives quite a bit of information about existing jobs and internships in professional sports - it is www.teamworkonline. I've had more than one student find an internship that way (I have taught Sports Marketing for years, so I have a lot of students trying to get into the field).
