FOR

Santana

Thats insane.

Do you people not see that Santana has ONE year left in his contact?

WHY NOT SIGN HIM WHEN HIS CONTRACT IS UP INSTEAD OF TRADING AWAY THREE PROSPECTS!

Do you not see common sense in that?

Johan wants to be a Yankee. He wants to win : and he wants money. Talk to Johan about a contract next year and sign him then instead of losing prospects who MAY be good.

Why? Why are the Yankees condsidering trading for Sanatana for 2 or 3 prospects when they can just sign him at the end of next season? Is that major stupidity? They cant wait A YEAR?

In a New York minute.

Santana = GREAT pitcher, the best in baseball. 93 career wins.

Hughes + Kennedy = 91 career INNINGS, 6 career wins.
Cabrera = .275 career avg, 15 HR's.

You are giving these 3 guys WAY too much credit, they are unproven players. Cabrera is the only one that's done ANYTHING in the majors.

Santana is a dominating starter.

EDIT: Scott, you couldn't be any more wrong about Wang. He's won 19 games in each of the last 2 seasons. What else do you need to do to be considered an ace?

Santana will be dealt one way or another. Right now the Yankees are looking at three "prospects" for the best pitcher in the game. The thing with "prospects" is that you have to wait for them to pan out; if the trade is going to go through a new deal will be done within a day of the trade for a long term lock-up. Johan is worth those three guys every day of the week. Cabrera is a light hitter with decent defense, those guys come along every few years...look at Ricky Ledee and Shane Spencer; two other "great prospects". As far as Hughes, he has already shown durability problems so get what you can for him now befre you have Pavano II. Kennedy is another young guy that could be great or could be Hideki Irabu...YOU KNOW WHAT YOUARE GETTING IN SANTANA!

The Twins are setting the price way too high for Santana. Probably they are hoping to sign him between now and next October. If anyone (read Yankees or Red Sox) is willing to trade their entire future for one year of Santana, the Twins will take it. So no, if I were Brian Cashman, I would not make the trade you are describing, which is apparently what the Twins want, and if I were Theo Epstein, I would not give the Twins Lester, Buchholz and Ellsbury for Santana. Even if Santana had more than just this year left on his contract, I doubt that I would do either of those trades..
If I were Santana, would I want to take the $80 million 4 year deal, which seems like stupid Barry Zito type money, or do I go for what is behind door number 2, meaning will someone be as stupid as the Giants were last year?

Hughes and Kennedy for Santana, ok. But no way should the Yankees give up Cano. He loves the Yankees and we love him. I like Cabreara too, but I guess we could get another outfielder.

The reason the Yanks are even considering this deal is because Johan will probably be gone before next offseason, so if the Yanks want him, then they gotta go for him now.

If Johan really wants to be a Yankee, he'll wait til his contract is up and sign with them.

You can't wait to get Santana. If the Yankees don't get him now the Red Sox will. How do you know he wants to be a Yankee? He can win with Boston, and Boston has money.

If I'm the GM I'll make this trade; Cabrera, Kennedy, Olendorff, and Sanchez. I'm not treading two of the big three, and definitly not trading Cano, unless the trade is Cano for Santana stright up.

They can't wait a year because they want a championship now, and with the Pitching they have at this stage they can't compete for a world series title. Sorry but Hughs Kennedy and Chamberlin are too young and inexperienced in the post season to convince me otherwise. PS Wang isn't even close to an Ace and Mussina is on life support. Getting Santana is vital to the Yankees, not only for themselves but to keep him away from Boston. Trade for Santana and sign him to a nice fat 7 year deal, and win 3 or 4 titles while hes here.

I agree #1 --- the deal is idiotic. By the time that Santana and his agent are done inking the deal, Johan could be the first $20 million a year pitcher in history (thanks, Zito). Here's the latest I picked up from Yahoo Sports:

The New York Daily News has installed the New York Yankees as a 3-1 favorite in the race to acquire Johan Santana of the Minnesota twins. The Boston Red Sox are 4-1, the Los Angeles Angels are 5-1 and the New York Mets 8-1.

It's no secret that the Yankees would love to add the lefthanded ace to their rotation, but at what price? They have made it clear that Joba Chamberlain is untouchable, although Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy can be had for the right price - and Santana, who will be 29 on March 13, could be that player.

Thumbs up on the question by the way.

The Yankees will give up whoever the TWINS say they want for Santana...PERIOD. That might still not be better than what the RED SOX offer them.
What most of you dopey Yankee fans seem to be forgetting is that it's not up to Santana who he gets traded to it's up to the TWINS. Johan just says he'll waive the trade clause or not. With the teams in contention for him it won't matter because all are contenders.
The big difference is that the Yankees NEED Santana in the worst way and the RED SOX don't, but the RED SOX have more tradeable parts that won't impact their team on opening day like it would do to the Yankees.
Either way the Yankees are still in bad shape with the oldest starting 9 in baseball all of who's numbers will be on the decline since they're not in a contract year!

Well since he has declined the extension with the Twins, he will most likely be traded, but only if he gets an extension with a team that wants him. Since he has a no trade clause, he will turn down any deal that doesn't hook him up with a long term extension. I guess if he really wants to play with the Yankees and if the Yankees don't acquire him, he will come back with the Twins or another team for one more season and next year he will sign with the Yankees because thats where the money he is looking for, is.

I don't want to trade away these youngsters, so I agree with you. Too bad, Hank and Brian don't really care what we have to say.

Typical blind Yankees fan. The Twins WANT to trade him. They know they can't afford to keep him, and they want to start rebuilding (example: dealing Tori Hunter). If the Yankees want him, they're going to have to get him NOW. The only way you're going to get a great player is to give big. The Twins (I heard) want Joba and Cabrera. They're not likely to back down, since everyone knows the Yankees need experienced starting pitching.

Let's also face the fact that the Yankees have a history of trading the farm for players. This is what they do. If they don't make this deal with the Twins, it's likely that Johan will wind up in Boston, or Anaheim. I can't even imagine adding him to the Redsox Rotation.. Hell, that wouldn't even be fair. That's the main reason why the Yankees are going to make that deal. They want to make sure he doesn't end up in Boston.

The Twins don't want to get nothing for him and just let him go after his contract is up...they know that they won't resign him for $20 million plus per year..they need to deal him now...It'll either be the Yankees or the Red Sox..whoever puts together the best prospects will get Johan...we know both teams can afford him easily and they want to win it now. It's going to take a lot ot get Johan but that's the risk you take...you can't trade for him without working out a new deal first..the trade has to happen this winter...

Typical Yankees fan! You are putting a value on the best pitcher in baseball as if he has a disease or something. What really has Hughes shown anyone? Yes, he has done it in the minors along with a few decent starts in the majors, but you're telling me that you wouldn't trade that for Yohan Santana - who is a PROVEN player?

Kennedy my friend is a light 2 starter or better 3 type starting pitcher. He is not the 2nd coming of Randy Johnson, more like Kenny Rogers. His stuff is not electric and I don't know if he would seriously crack the Yankees top 5 or 6 prospects.

Cabrera is also not that good. You're putting a value on him like you think he is the next Bernie Williams. If he was that good he would have already beaten out JDamon, Matsui, and whoever else you have in your OF.

How would you feel if Santana went to Boston? Cya later Yankees because your team, like it or not, is about to enter the dark ages of the early -late 80's - all those old veterans will soon be old crappy veterans
