When my son went to his 4 month checkup he was in the 85th percentile for weight. My dr also said to wait for solids because formula has all the vitamins he needs and solids are just extra calories and said to start at 5 to 6 months.
I just started to give him solids the last 2 weeks (he is almost 6 months old) but some days he is content after his bottle so he doesn't get solids everyday. If you think he is still hungry after feeding then give some cereal then cereal mixed with fruit or vegetables (my son eats both-didn't matter what order I gave them to him)

Your baby may be eating too much, or (s)he may not. It is true that allowing your baby to overeat with contribute to the child developing that habit and becoming a binger in later years, but if you do not feel she is overeating, let her eat, she may just gain weight easily. Try removing her bottle from her mouth or hold back on the next spoonful for about seven minutes; she may still feel hungry after being full simply because the food is taking a wile to hit her stomach.

I don't think that you should stop feeding him because he does not fit into the growth chart for his weight. I think you should give him the food. He will be crawling and walking soon enough and will burn off all of the extra weight and then they will be asking you if you are feeding him. Not all children fit into the little gap between what is and isn't acceptable for height and weight. I think that you should give him cheerios and baby food. I am having a problem with my peditrician because they are saying that my daughter is under weight for her age but she just got off formula, is on only table food and started walking. Of course she isn't going to gain weight this month! Your baby will be just fine! A mom knows best, go with your instinct. Good luck!

Your doctor told you not to give him solids because of weight? That's weird. Usually, solids stay in their little tummies longer and they guzzle down LESS milk. If they don't eat solids, they are only going to want more milk, which will lead to more weight gain. Do what YOU think is best for your son. If you want to start now, go ahead. If you think he should wait until the 7th, then wait.

As long as you are feeding him healthy food, I don't see an issue with it. Ask for a second opinion if need be.

It is import to introduce him to fruits and veggies now so he develops a taste for it.

if your child is over weight then i would listen to your doc's advice. I would also look into the formula causing his weight gain and if decreasing it would help is weight. It could go either way, i don't see how less formula and baby food would make him heavier.
