In other words, how old were you when you stopped talking about last night's show and started talking about politics and religion with your friends???
It was today for me. And I'm 17!

I often felt odd when things were said on the TV new like "Today a 21 year old man...." and I thought - heck, I'm 23 (or whatever) - does that mean I'm a man too??

I thought about it - and I was really still being like a big kid:
*My problems were all someone else's 'fault'
*I ate 'kiddy' food (chips, baked beans, stuff 'pre-packed and pre-cooked')
*I worried about what everyone else might think about me
*I didn't think that what I thought about me was so important
*I took a lot of crap from others coz I thought (unconsciously) that they must know more/be better than I
*I basically went mad on drink and drugs - coz I now could, without thinking about what it meant or why I was doing it.

After all that - growing up was the only thing left. But I did so in a controlled way - so I am still pretty daft even after another 25 years of being 'all-growed-up'. But I understand that growing up is about nothing more than taking responsibility for your actions. And realising that you are the only you on the planet and doing something positive with it. Talking about politics is a start... but don't lose the TV trivia - just understand that it IS trivia and means nothing.

So - good on you! Stick with it. It is fun! I know folk who are much older than you - and they are still stuck in childish ways (I mean that in a bad way, sadly, not a fun one!)

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

And remember:
We don't stop playing because we get old.........
we get old because we stop playing!

I am grown up, but that don't mean you can not still do the things you enjoy such as watching last night's show. If you all you do is talk about religion and politics you will find your life boring. There has to be an equal balance of fun time and serious time!!

You are only as old as your mind thinks!!

I don't think talking politics and religion make you and adult and just because you talk about them does not mean you know what you are talking about. Im not sure the people in politics know what they are talking about.

being an adult is about paying your own bills and doing what need to be done over what you want to do. Its when you sacrifice yourself and run for others and responsibility. Another requirement is you are not living at home or receiving money from the parents.

Sorry, just because you tuned into politics (which is everywhere right now) doesn't mean you have "grown up." You are at an awkward age where you are trying to be an adult and such things do not prove that you are. Plus it's not like an "AH HA!" moment like you are saying.

I have been into politics and stopped caring like you said when I was probably 19 or so. I would say I wasn't grown up until like 25.

oooh that's what growing up is....cuz i guess i havent since I still talk about last nights shows, I steer clear of religious and political conversations.
Before I read the rest of your question I was going to say 30 since that is when I stopped putting up with crap from a man and took control of my own life....much happier now. The man is still here but he's been reformed.

LOL! Talking about religion and politics doesn't make you grown up! What makes you grown up is your sense of responsibility and your attitude about everything.

Some people are over 40 and STILL have not yet grown up! And some kids are 14 when they start talking about religion and politics.

Don't be in a hurry to grow up, but it is always awesome when you take notice of whats going on in the world around you. Sounds like you are definitely ready for College! Classes in college are not about book-smarts, but about how much you can learn to change the world for the better.
