The USB ports on my desktop computer have died overnight. How can I restore them? The computer runs Windows 2000 Prof.

If the above method does not work, go to the store and buy a PCI USB card. This will add ports to your machine for around 25 dollars.

If it is a software issue, try the following...

Control Panel > System Icon > Hardware tab > Device Manager button
Find the USB section in the hardware listing and click the + in front of it. Should expand to show all the USB devices
Right click on each and uninstall it
Reboot the PC and it will redetect and reload the USB ports

You can't yourself, unless you are a technician. I think any computer shop can install a new USB receptacle for you.
