im 15, a bit of a wuss. and ive had ingrown toenails, on BOTH feet. on BOTH sides of the toe. ive had em for ages, they have gone pretty deep, only hurt if i mess with em (e.g. trying to perform my own surgery, that didnt go well). other than that they give me little pain, but some days do throb/ they are not infected and show no signs of getting infected. so, whats gonna happen. we have the appointment with the chiropodist, they have said that unless i have a health problem which is affected by the toenail, then possibly no action will be taken. thats NHS for you. ive seen somevids on youtube, and im not happy, im just very scared. and the appointments next january. so im not going o be able to focus on my holiday or christmas, becasue the fact that im off to get my toe mutilated, is imminent.

btw anyone else here got bin to the nhs? what happened did they treat you or what?

I have never had an ingrown toenail but my husband gets them often and uses a trick they taught him in the navy. He uses a piece of waxed dental floss to pull the nail from the skin and then trims the edges, It's painless and works great!

I live in the USA. It is hard to conceive of someone having to wait until January to see a doctor. The last time my wife had a problem with her toenail we just picked up the phone and called a podiatrist. She scheduled an appointment for the next day, paid her $15 deductible and was scheduled for an out patient surgical procedure which was performed two days later.

She was given a prescription for some antibiotics which was another $15. She scheduled a follow up appointment with the surgeon one week later (no charge) and that was that.

An ole home remedy that works.....try putting fingernail polish between the cuticle and the nail where the problem is .....this was taught to me by my grandmother and it works for me on my toes and fingers.....just keep the affected area applied for 2 or 3 days and the problem will be fixed.

I had an ingrown toenail removed twice and it's not really that bad. They just numb you with a shot in your toe and then you won't feel anything after that. I wouldn't have even known he was removing the toemail if I hadn't watched.

Feels awesome once you have it gone. Huge relief.
