Im w/ R C on this one. I really dont think that its a violation. Player B knocked it out of players A hands and it makes it a loose ball. I dont think that it would matter if it hit player A in the leg. Play should continue.

It is still a halfcourt violation because there was no change of possession. It was still considered in Team A's possession even though it was hit/deflected by Player B. This is one of the few situations that rewards the defense. I only wish jump balls went to the defense automatically. Last touch by player A in the front court means if he touches it in the backcourt it is an over and back call. And he better touch it or Player B is off to the races.

last touch was by player A (touched player A's leg). its a violation. doesn't matter if the ball was knocked out of his hands or not. that is why teams use the half-court line as an extra defender.

It doesn't matter if it's a loose ball one it crosses the line and if it's last touched by the offensive player it's over and back. It has to be touched by the opposing player for it not to be called but since the last player touched it was an offensive player it's over and back.

Kris,

Here is the rule according to the NBA rulebook:

Section J - Ball in Backcourt
1. A player shall not be the first to touch a ball which he or a teammate caused to go from frontcourt to backcourt while his team was in control of the ball. EXCEPTION: Rule 8-Section III-e (EXCEPTION).

Kindly,

Nickster

There is no violation. Since the ball was knocked out of Player A's hands it's a live ball, no one has full posession.

good question

i'm sure most high school refs wouldn't call anything because
it appears to be a loose ball and it was touched by the
other teams player

i dont know i wouldn't whistle it
