Is it ok to use Nail polish remover to clean off the old thermal compound? I believe it has acetone. Thanks.

I wouldn't use anything even remotely caustic. Use what the directions tell you to use (I just use a paper towel - comes off pretty easily).

Yes. I used acetone once and no damage was done to the CPU. However, I found that it didn't dissolve the thermal compound very easily. You have to have something to wipe it off with, like a piece of cloth. Cotton might leave residue.

pure rubbing alcohol (2.00 at the dollar store) and a lint free cloth......if artic silver or someother good compound was used, there in no way in he%% your gonna take out the chip and just wipe the stuff off.........cheap junk compound, probably could, but not anything that is good.........and no dont use nail polish removal...........

Hi. Yes if you are careful to only get it on the die. The heatsink will be OK. Just a tiny bit.

I recommend to use a paper towel and alchol
but dont do it on or by the motherboard

No... No.... No.... it should wipe off easily enough from the chips. You can use it on your hands but NOT on the chips! It eats silicone!!!! Chips are made of silicone.
