Its just a label they used like baby boomers and world war 2 and depression babies. they couldn't think of a clever name so they started using X and it stuck..

I have heard that the X generation is just saying that you used to be the generation that the world"counted on" but you all have grown up and now there is a new generation. thats what I have heard.
