There are 2 complex (or imaginary) roots for x, because the discriminant is negative.

D = b^2-4ac, where a=1, b=1, and c = 3.
D = 1^2 - 4*1*3= -11
Since D is negative, there are no real roots. There are two imaginary roots.

If D were positive, there would be two treal roots.

If D = 0 there is one root which is a double root.

If ax² + bx + c = 0 the discriminant is b²-4ac.
So in your case the discriminant is 1-12 = -11.
Since this is negative, your equation has
no real roots and 2 complex roots, i.e. roots
of the form a + bi.
