It's not just men -- the more power and money women have, the worse they treat others as well. The problem is the media touts rich women like Oprah and Rosie for their charity work but completely ignores rich men who give even more in charity than female philanthopists. No one sings the praises of Bill Gates, and he gives billions of dollars a year to charity. And need I mention the exploits of those like Leona Helmsley, Martha Stewart, Tyra Banks, Paris Hilton, Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton...shall I go on?
Money and power are corruptive forces, and neither men nor women are good at handling them. These corruptive forces tend to lead people to believe they are more important or more valuable than they really are, and as an analogy, they start to believe those who have less money or power are less important and less valuable than they are. That's where you get to the point where the rich and powerful believe that the "little people" are commodities that are to be bought and sold; used and disposed.
P.S.: You mentioned rich and powerful men specifically trading their wives in like they trade in stock. Two things on that point: (1) Women do it too -- just read the tabloids and the Holly-weird gossip pages, and (2) Everyone knows that many of the women who get tossed aside only married Mr. Rich and Powerful for his money and power. Personally, I'm against trading a wife in on a newer/better model, but I also find the Anna Nicole Smiths (READ: Gold-diggers) of the world despicable.

I wouldn't say that all men who achieves power & money cold hearted & chauvanistic. But the climb up that ladder is basically business and if you treat your social life like your business, you are going to be making decisions based on business, not emotions. I just think that all people, if they get everything easily; material wealth, power, women, people - it takes a phenomenal one to stand out from the crowd, and believe me, they will remember that person. That's not to say they don't make emotional decisions, just not where you expect it. But people with money & power have people throwing themselves at them all the time, thus, making them dispensable. It also paves the way towards that expectation when they deal with other people. They want the best, are used to it and will always expect it because if you can't give it, there's always someone else who can.

It depends on the source of that money and power;
Those who merely inherit it might be more inclined to be spoiled.
Those who earn it as a corporate executive or politican are probably career minded and have less time available to share with their woman. So he might not give her the attention she desires.
The idea that they trade in their wives would be inaccurate; while they might commit adultery due to the options presented by their wealth and power that are not made privy to others, they are probably less likely to divorce statistically due to not wanting to lose their wealth.
You are referring more to Celebrities or Professional athletes; which seems to be more a result of fame and ego than wealth. Their careers require them to have exciting lives that keep them in the news. You don't lose money as a celebrity by going through a horrid divorce, you make money.
Businessmen like Donald Trump or Bill Gates tend to get married and stay married. The same for politicians. In part because the women they marry tend to share the same ideals and desire for wealth or power. Hilary Clinton would not be where she is now, had she left Bill.

I definately believe the 2 are linked, how and which precedes which im not sure. But i agree the two are always in each other s company, Or is it maybe that these kind of men attract vacuous females who are happy to live in that kind of world. A world that articulate and educated women would not entertain, and as the saying goes there is always someone for everyone? Im sorry i maybe posed more questions than answers but i think you will appreciate the alternative point of view.x

That's an interesting question. I think men who have money and power may be more inclined to take women for granted, and thus mistreat them. Of course, it's never a good idea to stereotype an entire group of people based on the actions of a few.

You may be right about the way some men with money and power treats women and things, but I also think some men with money and power have no respect for themselves either.

They are more likely to be like that by nature if any but i don't think it is just true of men i think the same applies with men, women and even animals (essentially). But a lot of people are like that anyway deep down but they are not powerful enough to get away with it.

Yes.. but they don't treat women poorly because they are bad people. They treat them poorly because they know the women are not with them for the right reasons. Men can tell a woman who loves HIM vs. his wallet. These men get their butts kissed all day by women for being rich, so after a while these women just seem like gold digging parasites.
Just like attractive women treat some men poorly for drooling over them. They are aware the man just wants sex so they treat him like crap. They can tell a man who likes THEM vs. their body.
make sense?

Don't blame the guys, they think with their penises. Blame the trophy wives who spend their whole lives getting plastic surgery and looking good so that some rich guy will pay for everything they want. Then once the claws are in, she'll leave and take half of his stuff. Trophy wives deserve to be traded in like cars or stock, it's what they want.

It's probably both. Men who succeed in the business world are usually jerks to begin with. Then they become successful and they feel even more justified in their condescension.
