My fiance and i got engaged Christmas of lastyear and we have had our ups and downs but we have turned out ok. As you know being engaged is a big committment and if money and education is the only thing holding yall back yall are doing good. When it's the right time it will happen and good luck to you both.

Well my fiance and I have been dating total (on december 4th 2007) for 3 years and 6 months. We got engaged on Christmas eve last year. We are getting married may 3rd 2008. So we will have been engaged 1 year 4 months and some odd days when we get married. If you love each other it can last no matter how long it takes to save money to get married. I heard of people that get married to soon having problems and it not lasting.

My husband asked me to marry him 13 days after we started dating. We were married 3 months later and have been married a little over 10 years. My grandparents knew each other 3weeks before getting married and were married 50 years before he passed away.
There is never going to be a good time to marry where finances are not an issue. Money will probably always be tight until you are well established in your careers. If you do not want to wait , then you may need to make sacrifices in order to be husband and wife. Not getting the exact house you want or having a smaller wedding than you have always dreamed of. You can always renew your vows and have a much larger celebration later on.
Good luck and focus on the really important stuff... each other.

I too had no money to really have a wedding so my husband of 11 years and I were engaged for 2 weeks and decided to let the justice of the peace marry us. We had no honeymoon and really did not care to because money was a big issue. We went back to work 2 days later and are fine now. It really does not matter if you love one another. Also preference is a factor too. Whether or not you want a big or small wedding or to even have one at all. Good Luck!!!

i was engaged for 6 months before the wedding. If you have a plan and you are truely in love it wouldnt matter if you engaged one hour or ten years. I would say that life is a journey so if you feel you want to be engaged whether or not it does pan out you have the experience and you lived in love

I was engaged for 4 months before getting married. The marriage didn't work out and ended in divorce. Short engagments don't mean the marriage will work. I'll tell you what though, I will never get engaged or get married again.

We have been together a year and 4 months, engaged 4 months and will not be getting married until another 10 months.
I have no problems waiting and neither does he. Like you, we just don't have the money right now.

Yes you can be engaged for a long time. I was once engaged and I wanted to to make sure he was ready for it so we were engaged for a year as it does take about that long to save up for a wedding. Just get engaged and do not have an engagment party just yet as that may look silly having it and not ready to plan as everyone will ask.
