I just turned 12 in September and I want a cellphone, but when I ask my mom she just laughs and says no, i think I should get a cell phone for Christmas. I am very responsable, I have had my dads old fake cell phone for 1 year and i have dropped it like only once or twice and i have never lost it. I think I am responsable enough for a cellphone, how old do you think I should be to have one? Whats your ideal cell phone age?

answer honestly please.

Maybe it's not a matter of maturity. Perhaps your parents just can't AFFORD to buy you a cell phone this year. They can get expensive month after month after month... =)

The responsibility doesn't lie within actually taking physical care of the cell phone, even though they are expensive for the most part. The responsibility lies with managing your account and being able to pay for the service. If your mommy and daddy give you a cell phone, the account will be in THEIR name, so THEY will be the one's responsible for making sure that the monthly bill gets paid, and on time. Unless you have a job or can drive a car, then you have NO business having a cell phone. What do you plan on talking about? Video game cheats? The one girl was right- you shouldn't get a phone until YOU can pay to have it.

My son will be 13 in December. He got his cell phone last year when he was 12. It was with the understanding that if he lost or broke the phone it would not be replaced and he would have to repay us for the phone from his savings. He has done a great job of keeping up with the phone. He like to go fishing as a small lake by our house and I like the idea of being able to check on him when he is there. He can also call us in case of an emergency. I would sit down with your Mom and talk with her about why you want the phone and what arrangements could be made to get you one. It only cost us an additional $9.00 per month to add him to our plan. We get unlimited minutes between the three of us. Good Luck.

Age isnt the key, its about responsibility. If you can be trusted not to go over your minutes, and not to run the bill up with too much texting and getting online etc... Your mom may have too many responsibilites at this time. Maybe she cant afford to pay for your cell phone. They have A LOT of hidden charges, and cost more than you may think. Either way, she is your mom and you have to respect her decision. Maybe when you start to work, you will earn enough to pay for a phone. Depending on the child, I woul;d start considering it at 13- IF AND ONLY IF it wouldnt hurt me financially. I got mine at 16, and I paid every single penny of every bill and for the cost of my bills every month- no one else!

Cell phones for kids are not a need and should be gotten when the child who wants it can afford the phone and the payments for cards or monthly bills that go with that phone. My 17 year old daughter bought one, but can't afford the payments to keep using it.

I got a cell phone when I started driving. You don't need a cell phone before that time. Call your friends on a regular phone.

When u say answer honestly, I think you seem to be pretty responsible. Your mom is the best to decide when you could hv your own cell phone. Ask her and her only....

I have a 12 year old granddaughter and she wants one as well. It depends on the reason you want one. My granddaughter has a good reason for needing one (but she still isn''t getting one). If you just want it to text and call your friends I don't think you need it or are ready for it. I think if you are involved in a lot of school activities and need to call home for a ride it might be a valid request but is should be a basic model that you can't text on and have limited calling. Truthfully I don't think kids should get them till they are 16 and they should not be allowed to use them in the car.

I was 14 before I got mine. I am now 20. I got it for emergency purposes only. When I was 16 I was responsible for paying the bill. I had a trac-fone. Now I have my own plan.

To answer your question If you had phone now for emergency purposes only I would be all for it. It would be pre paid to guarantee that it was not being abused.
