I am thinking of getting rid of my phone line altogether as the only reason I use it is to keep my computer running on dial up.
I now own a laptop computer with a wireless router .
Could someone give me basic information about wireless internet? How much should it be? is it unlimited? what are the good points and bad points of wireless? that sort of thing.
Thank you

Dropping dial up is a move in the right direction, it's an obsolete technology. You have a few options here:
1. Cable Internet.
2. DSL,
3. Satellite.
I recommend cable if you have access to it in your town, it's more reliable statistically over time. Costs vary depending on where you live, here in Louisiana 10mb packages cost 50.00/month on average. DSL is a little behind the speed curve here and not nearly as reliable over distance, the further you are away from the headend the less reliable it is.
Satellite internet you can get pretty much any where but the speeds are not even close to that of cable and it costs twice as much in most cases.
As far as setting up your wireless network after you've decided on which Internet technology you'll use it pretty straight forward, see this site for step by step instructions for getting your wireless network up and running with encryption!

i still prefer a wired than a wireless. because a wired is more secure than a wireless. people can easily hack into your system by just going close to the outside wall of your house. that is how businesses are hacked by just using a laptop with a wifi sniffer which is readily available on the internet. and a wireless is slower than a wired one, because a wireless will have more loss of signal than a wired. am using a wired dsl/ broadband with about 550kbps maximum download, it is not that fast, but it is okay.

i think the fastest i have used is the internet in a hospital in the usa; it is really fast download 100mb just took less than 20 to 30 seconds.

I don't have a phone line and have highspeed internet service via Clearwire. This is a wireless service that basically uses the same technology as cell phones. The service is great and the speed is comparable to DSL if not better. I have my Clearwire modem connected to a wireless router and it works very well anywhere in my house.
