If "gold " is in the clue it won't be in the answer and vice versa. Thanks for your help. These are the last clues out of 100 and they are driving me crazy! It is not a crossword puzzle so I don't have any letters, just the number of letters in the words.

1. Dealer in broken remnants of gold (4,3,3)
2. Israel's downfall (6,4)
3. Dismissal from the army, followed by a job in Whitehall (6,6)
4. US plutocrat favoring the gold standard (7)

#2 can't be Golda Meir because it's 6, 4 - that's why it's driving me crazy!

I'm not British so not sure what the Whitehall reference might mean.
