My dad says he doesn't like oversensitive people like my aunt - but I think I have the gene inside of me, too.

For instance, I take everything personally and every single bad thing that's happened to me will linger in my mind for weeks if not months.

What do you think of over-sensitive people?

What we are talking about is being "easily hurt". Knowing this about yourself is a step towards anesthetizing yourself. There's some mistaken notion that everything is about you and so even random comments are taken as personal insults.
There's also the idea that you are responsible for random events. You might apologize for the day being rainy.
I don't ever wish to make anyone's life more difficult and so I take a bit more care so as not to offend. The reason why people don't like to deal with easily hurt people is because they don't like being cast as the villain and they don't care enough to take the time to apologize and soothe, as if 2 or 3 minutes is too much effort. Many, if not most, people have heightened sensitivity for their own peculiar things and you will know when you've pushed their buttons. The difference is a matter of amount and degree. People are more alike than they care to admit. As you mature, you will learn to ignore or at least, play down some of the things that bother you now. And because you know from personal experience, you will always be more compassionate and more patient than the next guy. As such, you are a gift. Healers are those who have been wounded.

Hug for you.
C. :)!!

Like all things in life, its always good to take things with a *little* pinch of salt :-)

I think we've got to weigh the pros and cons of being 'over-sensitive'. There should also be a clear definition on what that 'oversensitivity' refers to, which should be interpreted in order to get a clear picture because this phenomena depends on certain factors or inclinations.

Most people become over-sensitive due to expectations, what do you think?

People are born with tendencies toward different levels of sensitivity, and environment as well as other things contribute toward that. They usually can't help how they feel about things, and shouldn't be avoided or treated differently because of it.
I'm one, so know where you're coming from. Some people seem to get a kick teasing the oversensitive.

If a person is like that all the time, it would be a bit annoying. Some people are over sensitive once in a while on a certain issue. But I guess the main thing is....nobody can tell you how you should feel.

I go thru what may be considered "over-sensitivity" at times.
I don't think it has so much to do w/genes as it does with conditioning.
Who is to judge what a person should or shouldn't be sensitive about? Of course, being over-sensitive may not make one popular.
I tend to see taking things too personally as perhaps more of a misjudgement than being too sensitive.

I always say everyone is different. It also depends on if I agree or disagree where the over sensitive person is coming from. Sometimes there not so over sensitive. It depends on the situation

Being sensitive is who you are as a person and is a great unique quality that shows how much you care about the world and others...These people are also a huge pain in my ***.

Same As Me To Be Honest

Its Like... If You do anything bad in school you will think about it and feel bad about it for a long time

Its Just your Personality and can be by your age
Its Not a bad thing ......some people like it

I guess anything out of moderation is bad. I wouldn't much care for insensitive people either... somewhere using common sense in the middle would be the ideal.

I think its easier to deal with insensitve rather than over-sensitive people; as they are far more predictable...

I am overly sensative and this gets on my nerves as well as most people who know me. So, I think they (I) need to work on their overly sensativeness to try to overcome it (because it is somewhat annoying). But I have always been this way, it is kind of hard to change.
