You need a letter for today that needs to be submitted to an official (it doesn't matter what kind). The person you need the letter from (who works 1000 miles away) is nice enough to do the letter immediately, fax you a copy, and send the original in the mail. Unfortunately, the a**hole official will accept only the original and needs it TODAY, and there's no way you'll receive the letter until the day after tomorrow. Would you have any ethical or moral dilemma about going over the faxed signature so it looks like an original? (Assume that there's no way you'll get caught).

It's difficult to say, if the original is on its way the official needs to understand that it is next to impossible especially at that distance.

By recreating the fax, and going over the signature you are infact creating a forged copy of the document, which I dont recommend.

Tell the "official" the best you can do is what you have, a fax copy.

My question , if I was the official, would be why did you wait till the last second to get this letter. If you waited just because, sorry about your luck, but if you didn't even get the request till a minute ago, then he should be willing to work with you. If he is an ****** though, you can never tell with them. As fo r the forgery, that's what it would be, do it if you like getting fired and possibly getting a stay at the Grey Bar Hotel.

Without knowing all the facts it sounds to me like there's plenty of room here for responsibility on at least two sides!

Unless your very life depends on this letter, were I in your position I'd have to question if working for such a person, or getting the desired result, was even worth it.
