Kurt Cobain wrote this about the time when he was kicked out of his home. He was forced to live under a bridge for shelter. That's the straight up analysis of it.

But, to me, this seems to be a metaphor. Who really knows what it could be........drug addiction or depression. Only Kurt really knows. The lyrics say that he has everything he needs to survive, but there is something that's stopping him from living fully.

I remember hearing in an interview that Kurt heard a story about a girl who was kidnapped at a concert and was raped. The song is a narrative through the eyes of the rapist, telling what the rapist thinks, as opposed to the more common narrative of the victim.
