Have you ever had inspiration for some book or invention, and didn't act upon it. Later you find out that someone wrote the book you wanted to or made the invention that you had sketched out on a napkin? There have been many lawsuits involving people who showed their ideas to famous people and get plagurized.
Mind reading is one thing, but there could be that one percent of the population that is tuned into grabbing all of the best ideas right out of the ether - coincidence or not?
Is the act of thought really a private issue?

Ok, if energy vampires only drain your life force, isn't it a given that our mental energy is taken along with it? People report sluggishness after being drained - science would say "it's all in your mind" why you feel listless.
And we are always touting the mind/body connection that means we can't have two distinct energies flowing inside of us so if our physical energy is taken then our mental energy could also as well.
Anyway I'm not arguing - just spinning the topic a bit for fun. I like all the responses so far!

I don't think so.
What you describe is a frequent and normal occurrence. For instance Alfred Wallace had worked on the theory of evolution but did not publish it before Darwin's work. It is not unusual (or paranormal) that two naturalist would think along the same terms and come to the same (or similar) conclusions.
Now if for example you had an idea about a toy and it was suddenly put on the market by someone who
A. Did not make toys for a living and
B. Worked in a separate field than yourself
then this would at least be interesting.
Going with this hypothesis (so debunkers can stop reading now because it requires imagination of a hypothetical).
The person would still have to be able to decide which ideas were good and which were bad to grab out of the ether. This (good judgment) is what makes business people successful. The idea of a collective consciousness (of all of human experience) is an old idea that was developed by William James and expanded on by Carl Jung that does suggest possible access to all ideas.
If one believes the years of evidence for ESP then one is led to question if thoughts are private. Unfortunately there is no good test for pure telepathy in order to test this aspect of ESP. However, the good news is that we misread people's body language (it's very culture based) and fail to understand what they mean when they speak (in our own language) on a regular basis. Thus, any thoughts acquired via ESP is just as likely (perhaps more so since it's an unusual way to get information) to be misunderstood as all other forms of communication.

That damn Bill Gates is a psychic vampire. Windows was my idea!
I have never been so vain as to assume I'm the only person in the world who had a particular great idea.
The idea that there is some sort of psychic corporate piracy going on with good ideas is pretty silly. I mean, even if there were, how would these pirates know where to get the ideas? How would they have time to sift through every single idea floating around the universe (especially when it isn't floating around the universe)?

If a "psychic vampire" could do that, they could make their fortune much faster and easier playing poker in the casinos. However, there is no credible evidence that such a thing as a psychic vampire actually exists.
Denie: What are the chances of two great ideas being generated independently and at the same time? Pretty good actually, since good ideas are usually born of necessity. Some good examples: Newton and Leibniz both invented calculus completely independently and at nearly the same time, since both realized it was needed to solve some very stubborn physics problems. The Wright Brothers and Santos-Dumont both developed airplanes at nearly the same time. Etc.

I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain psychic vampires steal energy, your emotional energy. They're the "leeches" if you will of society--that needy, super clingy girlfriend who never seems to be okay all by herself, for example.
And being telepathic, one thing I'm realizing is that invading someone else's thoughts in a way such as that in, well, invading their personal privacy. So, yes, thought really IS a privacy issue. Yes, I can hear other people's thought, but if they aren't spoken out loud, that thought is none of my business. I act on them, it's purely wrong.

Since skeptics think everything is "stored in your brain"...what are the chances of the same idea coming out of two different people's brains at the same time? To me it makes more sense that there really are spirits who put ideas into peoples' minds. And if that's true...then it's not the person's own thought or idea...it belongs to the spirit. The spirit is just sharing the idea to get something accomplished. For example...a lot of poems/rhymes came into my mind extremely fast. I KNEW I wasn't the one doing this...I was "receiving" it. I KNEW they didn't "belong" to me. (Don't try convincing others of that...caused me a whole lotta trouble.) So,maybe spirits let the ideas out into the universe and they're "up for grabs". (MAYBE)

It is more likely to be a case of simultaneous development. Sometimes great minds (and not so great minds) think alike. If you have any truly great ideas (that you were the first to have thought of), you should use copyrights, patents, or confidentiality clauses as applicable. Until your idea is protected, keep it a secret.

The way I understand it, psi-vamps are mostly about energy, not telekinesis. They may steal the energy of your thought and then turn it into their invention, but they probably don't take the thought itself.
