If it were me kids like a lot of little things versus one big thing, they feel like they are getting a lot. So, I would find a big basket, bucket, bag, or something fun to store a lot of little toys. Toys ranging from little cars, figurines, water guns, crayons, coloring books, puzzles, building sets etc. I'd go to a toy store and stock on up things that are 5 dollars or less and he'll thing the basket is never ending. If he was a little older id say you can put the 100 dollars into ones and he'd feel like he just got a thousand dollars but he seems too young to spend money on his own! But hey, it's still an idea.
For kids who love science and stuff The Learning Express is a great fun store for kids.

My six year old cousin is into transformers and ben ten. He also likes spiderman. Maybe he would like the action figures. Hope that this helps. He also likes board games and card games.
